Chief Hydration Officer (CHO)
Stomatal mechanics is the process by which tiny pores on a plant’s leaves (stomata) open and close. This movement is controlled by two guard cells: when they absorb water, they become turgid and the pore opens; when they lose water, they shrink and the pore closes. This regulates gas exchange (CO₂ uptake) and water loss through transpiration.
