Der EMOP Berlin - European Month of Photography ist das größte deutsche Fotofestival. Seit 2004 findet es alle zwei Jahre in Berlin statt und präsentiert zahlreiche Ausstellungen und Veranstaltungen zu historischer und zeitgenössischer Fotografie. Veranstalter ist die Kulturprojekte Berlin GmbH in Zusammenarbeit mit Museen, Kulturinstitutionen, Galerien, Botschaften, Projekträumen und Fotoschulen

in Berlin und Potsdam. Der EMOP Berlin ist Mitglied des European Month of Photography (EMOP), eines europäischen Gemeinschaftsprojekts, dem auch die Fotofestivals in Bratislava, Budapest, Ljubljana, Luxemburg, Paris und Wien angehören. Bereits 2003 entstand auf Initiative der Berliner Partnerstadt Paris die Idee, ein europäisches Netzwerk von Fotofestivals ins Leben zu rufen. Der Kooperation von Berlin, Paris und Wien folgten schon 2006 die Hauptstädte Bratislava, Luxemburg, Moskau und Rom. 2012 wurde der Kreis um Budapest und Ljubljana erweitert. 2014 trat Athen dem europäischen Netzwerk bei.

What a great start to the 11th edition of with the EMOP Opening Days! 🔥

Openings, panels, talks, award ceremonies and so much more with many national and international guests and thousands of visitors: the last days in our festival center in the Akademie der Künste and all over the city were like a true photography marathon and formed the perfect start for . Thank you to all people involved - from partners and supporters to artists, all visitors and our team.

The best thing is that is just getting started: around 100 exhibitions will be on display throughout the month and you can expect more openings, many events and EMOP specials on the medium of photography.

We proudly present our first festival centre! 🎉🩵

For its 11th edition, EMOP Berlin is setting up a festival centre in the Akademie der Künste (AdK) for the first time. The festival centre at the Hanseatenweg location has its own extensive programme and forms the starting point for the many exhibitions and events taking place around the city.

In addition to the EMOP Opening Days, which feature three days of artists’ talks, panel discussions, film screenings, book talks, and an awards ceremony, the AdK’s first floor will become a stage for contemporary photography. This is also where our main festival exhibition “what stands between us. Photography as a Medium for Chronicling” opens, as well as the exhibition “Ein Dorf 1950–2022” by Ute Mahler, Werner Mahler, and Ludwig Schirmer, initiated by the AdK.

In curator tours, artists’ talks, and other formats, visitors will gain in-depth insight into the exhibitions through-out the festival. Find the full program in our festival centre on our website: https://emop-berlin.eu/en/festival-centre/
