The following post contains and regards the topic of National-Socialism, Fascism and their personal dimension for me.
In 2018 I started to research and archive the role of my grandparents during the Third Reich and after. Let me be clear right away: they were N***s. They are guilty by moral, ethical and social affiliation and participation in the fascist dictatorship and its deeds. No heroes here, nothing we today would see as a force of good in the world.
In my family this has never been something extraordinary, in fact it was just as it was. To me, this was the history of us all, every German was a part of it and involved. The collective myth of our grandparents and relatives being "secret resistors" or "not having known about anything" and all the other comfortable lies held to be true for too long, are what motivated me to dig into this. This and the fact that a considerable stack of documents, a few pictures and the like, remained after my grandmother died.
The material you're seeing in these pictures are of my grandfather's ownership. Why post this today?
It would be his 100th birthday as the prisoner of war release form (the one over stamped with the big over red SS runes) indicates. I'm the second generation after him. I never met him. I am uncertain whether or not I wanted to. There are many questions, and many I could answer thanks to archives and research. Hence I've taken this on as a personal project. They were nothing special in the fascist system. They were the average well- intended yet convinced supporters and perpetrators of the system. We must be aware of their way from the last glimpses of the Weimar Republic, fully growing up and living in the National- Socialist system as well as their lives after 1945- now more than ever.

Berlin, Germany- 18. November 2020- Series of five:
A demonstrator wearing a crown leans on a wall in Tiergarten facing the Brandenburg Gate as part of a protest against modifications to a law called the "infection protection law" ("Infektionsschutzgesetz") after a vote on the law in the Bundestag during the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic on November 18, 2020 in Berlin, Germany.

A group of protesters stands tightly together without masks and occasionally flashing and shouting authoritarian and fascist signifiers as police keeps them at arms length with a cordon of dogs, in front of the Brandenburg Gate.

A women entranced in esoteric believes holds an amulet while she stands next to a group of protesters which refuses to comply with pandemic containment protocols and occasionally propagates authoritarian and fascist signifiers in front of the Brandenburg Gate.

The crowd, which gathered to protest, had the intended aim to storm the parliament. The law creates a solid legal framework for restrictions and other measures related to the spread of the pandemic, including such topics as the wearing of protective face masks, the temporary closing of restaurants and bars, limits on personal contact with others, vaccinations and also compensation for time spent in quarantine. All the while Germany has imposed a four-week semi-lockdown with the aim to curb recent record infection rates.

Series of three:
A flag with a raised fist flies over a banner reading "All Black Lives Matter" as people prepare to go silent for eight minutes and 46 seconds in tribute to George Floyd during a protest against racism and police brutality on June 6, 2020 in Berlin, Germany. Eight minutes and 46 seconds is the duration Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin held his knee on the neck of Floyd, thus suffocating him. Similar demonstrations have been taking place across Europe, with over a dozen taking place across Germany today. Floyd's death, as well as the brutal recent response by police against protesters in the USA, have struck a chord with many people of color and others in Europe.
