Richie Cole – “Sunset’s Theme” (Live Performance)

Filmed live at the Westmoreland Jazz Society on October 15, 2015, this performance captures the legendary alto saxophonist Richie Cole leading the Pittsburgh Alto Madness Orchestra through one of his original compositions, Sunset’s Theme. This piece opens the concert with Cole’s signature blend of playful bebop, warm melodic phrasing, and explosive spontaneity.

🎷 About Richie Cole
A fiery and inventive alto saxophonist, Richie Cole was a driving force in keeping bebop alive through decades of jazz evolution. He began his career with the Buddy Rich Big Band and went on to lead his own groups, including the Alto Madness Orchestra, with a style that was equal parts technical brilliance and joyful mischief. Known for bridging high-level jazz artistry with accessibility, Cole remained active as a performer, composer, and educator until his passing in 2020.
