may I introduce: gonimbrasia tyrrhea (zigzag emperor moth / zigzag kaiser-motte) in the 3rd instar vs. 4th instar.
the species owes its name to the appearance of the moth, which has a zigzag-like pattern.
i lovingly call them charlies - because my niece named the biggest caterpillar charlie (:
darf ich vorstellen: gonimbrasia tyrrhea (zigzag kaiser-motte / zigzag emperor moth) im 3. larvenstadium vs. 4. larvenstadium.
die art hat ihren namen dem aussehen des falters zu verdanken. dieser hat ein zick-zack-muster.
ich nenne sie liebevoll charlies - da meine nichte die größte raupe charlie getauft hat (:

I was really looking forward to that: 's new album goes out into the world today!
when i listened to his debut album years ago, the phrase "music to soothe your soul" first imposed on my mind and his music in particular still embodies it par excellence.
when working visually i like to listen to the artist's music - sometimes so often that it starts to annoy me. that didn't happen here, it gets better, and so it is with pleasure that i share the created artwork and one of my favourite photos with you.

i guess most people visit butterfly houses because of the butterflies. i only see them when they almost fly at my head. i look for caterpillars and eggs. i already fell in love with this one last year: caligo memnon (owl butterfly / bananenfalter).

ich denke, die meisten menschen besuchen schmetterlingshöuser wegen der schmetterlinge. ich sehe die nur, wenn sie mir fast gegen den kopf fliegen. ich suche raupen und eier. in diese hier habe ich mich schon letztes jahr verliebt: caligo memnon (owl butterfly / bananenfalter).

a special project that i'm incredibly happy to share with you. this is a image from a series for - it accompanies the first single from his upcoming album - and it's going to be big! i've known hannes and his music for almost 7 years and the new music compositions feel very familiar to me and at the same time like they're not from this world. it suits him very well, because i hardly know anyone who is more down to earth and at the same time more alien than him. it was a lot of fun brainstorming together and then casting the created worlds into pictures. thank you hannes 🖤

these are two different individuals of the two-tailed pasha. without the macro shot, i would not have seen a striking difference in the two. can you spot it?
das sind zwei unterschiedliche individuen des erdbeerbaumfalters. ohne die makroaufnahme hätte ich einen markanten unterschied bei den beiden nicht gesehen. wer findet ihn?

uh lala - 3 different instars of the caterpillar of arctia caja close together - i had to take a closer look.
to make the differences clearer, i have processed the picture a little more (the dark areas are lightened and the colours a little richer).
this species develops at different speeds, so that the period in which the moths fly is stretched. because: the garden tiger moth lives only for a short time - about 8 - 10 days.
uh lala - 3 unterschiedliche stadien der raupe von arctia caja eng beieinander - das musste ich mir genauer ansehen.
um die unterschiede zu verdeutlichen, habe ich das bild etwas stärker bearbeitet (die dunklen bereiche sind aufgehellt und die farben etwas satter).
diese art entwickelt sich unterschiedlich schnell, sodass der zeitraum in der die falter fliegen, gedehnt wird. denn: der falter des braunen bären lebt nur kurz - ca. 8 - 10 Tage.

feeding traces of arctia caja on blackberry. i find it fascinating how the caterpillar proceeds and what remains. the caterpillars of the garden tiger moth can be called "wild boars", because they eat a variety of plants. it is all the more disillusioning that the formerly common species has become rare. it can be found on the „red list“ and is specially protected. to draw attention to this, arctia caja was chosen as butterfly of the year 2021.
frassspuren von arctia caja an brombeere. ich finde es faszinierend, wie die raupe vorgeht und was übrig bleibt. die raupen des braunen bären kann man als „wildschweine“ bezeichnen, denn sie essen eine vielzahl an pflanzen. umso ernüchternder ist es, dass die früher häufige art selten geworden ist. man findet sie auf der roten liste und sie ist besonders geschützt. um darauf hinzuweisen wurde arctia caja zum schmetterling des jahres 2021 gewählt.
