Sk8ter Boys
What happens when four guys with too much energy, a lot of time and and an infinite supply of ideas go on a 1000-kilometer-tour across Germany? They take the longboard. I did a news reportage for Getty Images about Dner , Simon Unge, Cheng Loew and Julien Bam starting with a late breakfast at their hotel and finishing with a quick outdoor shoot using Profoto B1 surrounded by beautiful nature and curious cows.

Going Up
A client needed an aerial shot of the huge company grounds with special requirements: The main perspective will be printed 3,80 meters wide and 3,00 meters high. Usually, a Pro-DSLR like a Canon 5D Mark III or a Nikon D800 would do the job - provided the viewing distance for the final printout is long enough. But this time, viewers would stand as close as 3 meters in front of it. So the right tool for the job was the 80 Megapixel Phase One 645+ Medium format camera with the IQ180 digital back attached. The client was very specific about which viewing angles should be photographed, so I rented a helicopter with removable doors instead of an airplane (which would have been much cheaper). The massive glass on the camera is the new Schneider-Kreuznach 40-80mm LS f/4.0-5.6 Medium Format Leaf Shutter lens which became available just in time for the job.

The Hub
I was assigned to do a reportage about one of the two major DHL hubs in the world alongside Hong Kong: The DHL hub at Leipzig-Halle Airport, which handles about 100,000 parcels from up to 60 cargo planes per weeknight. They are only working at night - so light was a challenge. I found the castor decks very interesting: Thousands of little 360 degree turning wheels in the floor that allow containers weighing 5 tons and more to be moved by a single worker. Most impressive were the insides of the cargo planes, especially the bigger ones like the 747.
