Monika Al-Anni grew up in a small Czech town and promised herself to move to a big city as soon as possible to live a life surrounded by the beauty of history, arts, design, literature, good food but also greenery. Yet, being of both Czech and Polish descent, Monika does not feel being a part of anything fully. Her uncatchable soul makes her feel rooted everywhere and nowhere at the same time. Her
personal and professional selves have been largely influenced by the Middle East – in all its complexity and beauty. Middle Eastern motives are largely present in her photography, reflecting on the the desert and the art of the journey but also dynamics of the modern Middle Eastern cities and peoples. In her work, she also likes to discover geometry, spirituality of the nature, humankind and both somberness and vividity of city life and its architecture. Monika loves to travel and discover the new, the different and the unknown. She is a wanderer with eyes wide open, a curious mind that likes to read people like open books, a seeker for hidden beauty, an admirer of the unspoken. A believer. Photography has become one significant voice of hers.
