Our first winter in Amman is almost over, I think... we’ve had a lot more rain than I expected, and it’s quite cold (especially at night: freezing temperatures!) but less than an hour away at the Dead Sea it’s always pretty moderate!

If you’re the photographer in your family, or if you’re single: how often are you in the photo? I only started taking this seriously in the past few years. I realized I was only ever in selfies or in the occasional posed snapshot taken by a friend. I want my kids to have beautiful photos of their childhood with me in the picture, too! Now I book a shoot every year, and then I print a framed collage of favorites from each shoot. It brings me a lot of joy to see these images up in our hallway. 📷: Honza for

My kids loved exploring Petra. It’s an incredible place. I just wish my older kid wasn’t SO fearless... she kept climbing up, up, up whenever she saw an opportunity!

I am still amazed that we have this location in downtown Amman. This is a large middle eastern city of ~4 million people, but we have green spaces and ancient ruins. And rain. So much rain! Tomorrow they’re calling for snow. 🤷‍♀️

are a very important part of Bedouin life. As you drive out of the city and toward the desert, you start to see camels alongside the road. Then more and more, until it’s no longer such an amazing sight. My kids barely look out the window now when I say, “look! A camel!” Sort of how they were with elephants in SE Asia. Oh, what lives they are living.
