The River Dodder is one of Dublin’s loveliest hidden escapes.

Tucked away in the city, the Dodder Linear Park follows the river through leafy paths, quiet corners and peaceful stretches that feel far removed from the busy streets nearby.

It is one of those places that reminds you Dublin has so many beautiful green spaces hiding in plain sight.

How to get there:
Take the Luas to Milltown, walk up the hill towards Rathmines and from the Dropping Well pub, follow the riverside path along towards Bushy Park.

The Obelisk on Killiney Hill was built in 1742 by local landowner John Mapas as part of relief works during a time of severe hardship and famine.

Today, it stands at the summit of Killiney Hill Park, where the views stretch across Dublin Bay, the Irish Sea, Dalkey Island, Bray Head and the Wicklow Mountains.

From Dublin city centre, take the DART south towards Greystones or Bray and get off at Killiney Station. From there, it is a steep walk up through Killiney Hill Park to the Obelisk. You can also drive from the city centre in around 35 to 45 minutes depending on traffic and park near Killiney Hill Park.

It is one of those places where history, landscape and sea air all come together.

We stumbled upon Brackaharagh Beach, also known as O’Carroll’s Cove, and it has everything you could wish for.

Stunning scenery, pristine waters and soft golden sand.

O’Carroll’s Cove bar and restaurant sits conveniently overlooking this breathtaking cove and is the perfect place to stop for a delicious meal and enjoy the view.

This rugged little harbour in County Antrim was used as a filming location for scenes linked to Theon Greyjoy’s return, adding another layer of drama to a place that already feels wild, windswept and unforgettable.

Known as the fairy tree or May flower, the hawthorn is one of the most beautiful sights in the Irish countryside at this time of year. As its white blossom appears along hedgerows, fields and old paths, it brings with it centuries of tradition and folklore.

Historically, the hawthorn was treated with great respect and often left untouched, especially when standing alone in a field or beside an old path. People believed it marked a place connected to the fairy world and cutting one down was thought to bring bad luck.

In May, when the tree bursts into white blossom, it is easy to understand why it inspired so many stories. There is something ancient and magical about the hawthorn, as if it has been watching over the Irish landscape for generations.
