Birds don't have borders – so why a birder?

I was very lucky to capture this shot at Mikulov Castle back in February - spotting a Wallcreeper in an urban setting is a real rarity in the Czechia. Yesterday, the photograph was published in the magazine *Naše příroda* (Our Nature).

ULTIMATE ECOLOGICAL IRONY 😵‍💫 House sparrows are the LEAST suitable bird species on the planet to be described as "locals" - ! The house sparrow remains the most numerous avian species on the Earth - only because of unnatural invasive populations outside Eurasia (see the source in the link in the comment below). Thus, without human intervention house sparrows would never be present even in Europe - not to speak about North and South America and Australia. They are the opposite of "locals" - and from the point of view of real locals (the native species that are under pressure from invasive aliens like sparrows, starlings, mynas etc.) this is extremely unfortunate... :-(

Supporting bird conservation – BPOTY Charity Auction 🙏👍

I'm delighted that this image, which received an award in the Bird Photographer of the Year competition, has been selected for the BPOTY charity auction.

This is an original exhibition print that travelled as part of the Bird Photographer of the Year exhibition. Once the exhibition tour ends, many of these prints would otherwise end up in storage or be discarded. Instead, BPOTY is giving them a second life while supporting bird conservation.

If you like the photograph, you can place a bid and perhaps give it a new home. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to Birds on the Brink, helping to protect some of the world's most threatened bird species.

I'll be happy if the image finds a new wall to hang on—and even happier if it helps a good cause along the way.

The auction ends on the evening of June 28th (Sunday).

The highest-ranked Central & Eastern European birder in the "False WP ranking" (species from the official WP list that the birder has seen anywhere in the world) is from the Czech Republic 😎✌️ I'm just going to the Czech embassy in Ulaanbaatar to toast to that (coincidence, but it's true).
