Před časem jsme opět vytvořili s Blueberry handwovens soutěžní koláž jejího úžasného šátku!
Let me introduce you my new wrap weaved for Czech/Slovak competition June 2019, which won the third place in two of three categories (weaver category and visitor category in Babywearing dad´s day meeting):

The Monochromatic theme was a big challenge for me and I was thinking about how will I make this wrap for a long time. Decision on material was much easier, as I wanted to make a wrap suitable for the upcoming summer season and for it to be suitable for a small baby as well as for a big toddler. Therefore, the choice fell on the pima cotton and the shiny, cool mulberry silk.
The warp is dyed in just four shades of variegated greys (classic and speckled), I created a warp in gradation from the brightest to the darkest, so that you can choose to be lighter or darker on top of the carry. The coloring of the weft was much more fun, because the half of the wrap, meaning longitudinally, is dyed on the fabric, where the weft material is first knitted and then dyed, which allows a beautifully smooth transition of colors over the entire length. The color goes from the dark, through the light and back to the dark. The second longitudinal half is formed by randomly alternating blocks of different widths in 7 different shades of natty, grey and black using several dyeing techniques. These two halves are intertwined through clasped weft weaving technique. The middle of the wrap is woven on one half of the width with an almost white weft, so it is noticeable and the middle marker is made up of three side by side inserted inlays. Others are irregularly distributed over the entire length of the wrap, with irregular length and positioning in width. For the inlays I used a stronger hand spun blend of extra fine alpaca and natural grey wool. Another speciality is a pattern that does not repeat completely regularly neither over the width of the wrap nor along the length. The wrap is finished on both sides with simple fringes, they measure on one side 10 cm, on the other 15cm and are decorated with beads in gradation from grey to transparent color.
The weaving itself was extremely challenging and time consuming, partly for the use of clasped weft technique, where every line had to be driven by a shed twice and also due to irregular insertion of inlays and pattern changes. But I think that the effort paid off and created an interesting, fluffy, universal wrap.

Téma Monochrom bylo pro mne velkou výzvou a dlouho jsem zvažovala, jaký šátek udělat. O to jednodušší bylo rozhodování, jaký materiál použiji, protože jsem chtěla udělat šátek vhodný na nadcházející letní sezónu a druhou podmínkou bylo, aby byl použitelný od malého miminka, ale s klidem unesl i velké batole. Volba proto padla na měkoučkou pima bavlnu a lesklé, chladivé mulberry hedvábí.
Osnova je barvená ve čtyřech odstínech melíru (použit je melír klasický i sypaný), z obarvených přaden jsem vytvořila osnovu v gradaci od nejsvětlejší po nejtmavší tak, aby si bylo možné vybrat, chcete-li světlejší nebo tmavší stranou navrch úvazu. Na útku jsem se barevně vyřádila daleko víc, jelikož celá polovina šátku, myšleno podélně, je barvená na úpletu, kdy se nejprve útkový materiál uplete a teprve potom nabarví, což umožňuje krásně plynulý přechod barev po celé délce. Barva jde od tmavé, přes světlou a zpět k tmavé, úplně na konci je asi metr barvený stylem pooling. Druhá podélná polovina je tvořena nahodile střídanými, různě širokými bloky v sedmi různých odstínech natty, šedé a černé s použitím několika technik barvení. Tyto dvě poloviny jsou propleteny do sebe díky technice tkaní clasped weft. Střed šátku je na jedné polovině šířky utkaný s téměř bílým útkem, takže je dobře patrný, středová značka je tvořena třemi vedle sebe vloženými inlays. Další jsou nepravidelně rozložené po celé délce šátku, mají nepravidelnou délku i umístění v šířce. Na inlays jsem použila silnější ručně spředenou směs jemné alpaky a přírodně šedé vlny. Další zvláštností je vzor, který se neopakuje zcela pravidelně ani po šířce šátku, ani po délce. Šátek je ukončen na obou stranách jednoduchými třásněmi, na jedné straně měří 10cm, na druhé mají 15cm a jsou zdobeny korálky v gradaci od šedé po transparentní barvu.
Samotné tkaní bylo nesmírně náročné na soustředění a čas, jednak kvůli použité technice clasped weft, kde na každý řádek musí projet člunek 2x prošlupem a také kvůli nepravidelnému vsazování inlays a změnám vzoru. Za sebe ale míním, že se úsilí vyplatilo a vznikl zajímavý, mazlivý, univerzální šátek.
