Some people leave behind more than the things they created. They leave a little piece of themselves in the world — in the way they made people feel.

I think Dolly Parton was one of those people.

Of course, she was an icon. A storyteller, a dreamer, and a woman with a voice and creative spirit that could never be mistaken for anyone else’s.

But for me, what made her truly special was her heart.

Behind all the rhinestones, the music and an incredible lifetime of success was someone who seemed to understand that what we achieve means so much more when we use it to bring a little light into someone else’s life.

She made us laugh.
She made us feel.
She gave so generously.
And she reminded people that it was okay to dream big and still remain kind.

Maybe that is why these simple words feel even more meaningful now:

“If you see somebody without a smile, give them yours.”

Such a small gesture. Such a beautiful way to move through the world.

And perhaps that is one of the loveliest things we can carry forward from her.

I went to Italy expecting an art retreat.
I came home with so much more. 🤍

My first time in Italy. My first trip without my husband or my family. And if I’m honest, I had no idea what to expect.

I arrived in Florence a little nervous, surrounded by people I didn’t yet know.

But somewhere between the painting, the laughter, long walks through beautiful old streets, incredible art, and conversations around the table… strangers became friends, and friends began to feel like family.

I fell in love with Florence, with its history, its art, and the feeling that everywhere you looked, there was another story waiting to be discovered.

There is something quite magical about standing in front of art you have only ever seen in books, seeing the brushstrokes and standing beneath the sculptures. Walking the same streets that artists walked hundreds of years before us.

I went there to grow as an artist.

But I think in some small way I grew as a person, too.

Thank you to the Milan Art Institute for creating an experience I will carry with me for a very long time.

Italy, you were my first… but definitely not my last. 🇮🇹🤍

There’s something about a kingfisher…

You rarely see one for long.

Just a flash of brilliant blue, and then it’s gone.

Maybe that’s why they’ve come to represent hope, joy, and the quiet reminder that some of life’s most beautiful moments are also the most fleeting.

These two paintings were inspired by those moments—the ones that ask us to slow down, look a little closer, and simply notice.

Some paintings are created to fill a wall.

Elephants move through the world with memory and care. They remind us that strength does not need to be loud, and that what we protect today becomes the world of tomorrow.

This piece is deeply rooted in where I come from — a dedication to South Africa, the land that shaped my seeing, my sensitivity, and my love for wildlife.

A little glimpse into the artist behind the work.

I have always loved the deeper feeling that black and white photography carries.There is something timeless about it… as if the image already holds a story, you only need to slow down enough to listen.

I’ve always been a rather shy person, quietly observing the world around me.But the moment I pick up a camera or a paint brush, something shifts in me. I feel alive.

Art has become my way of speaking — of holding onto emotions, memories and fleeting moments that are difficult to put into words.

Maybe that is why I paint the way I do.Not just to create something beautiful, but to create something that feels.

My story is still unfolding.
