Tonight, I am participating in an with , this time with the theme Mother's Day.

Becoming a mother and being a mother is something that changes your life forever. It lies in the small moments, in the strength of a woman during childbirth, in the first meeting with her baby, and in the love that is palpable from that moment on.

As birth photographers, we get to capture this special transition up close. Not just the birth of a child, but also the birth of a mother.

I chose this photo for this theme because she was the first pregnant woman I had the privilege of photographing here in Cyprus.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧?

This is something almost every mom asks me, well it doesn’t have to be complicated. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Soft, neutral tones always work beautifully. Think of whites, beige, light grey or soft pastels. Nothing too busy, so the focus stays on you and your baby.

But most importantly: wear something you feel comfortable in. You just had a baby. You don’t need to be perfect, you just need to feel like yourself. 💃

I’ll always guide you with this beforehand, so you never have to stress about it.

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞?

Every session is different, because every baby is different.

Sometimes we’re done within an hour. Sometimes it takes a bit longer, up to 2 or even 2.5 hours. That’s completely okay. We follow your baby’s rhythm. There’s time for feeding, changing, calming… whatever is needed. Nothing is rushed.

The session is meant to feel calm and relaxed, not like something you have to “get through”.

And in between all of that, I hope we have a lovely time🤍

𝐋𝐞𝐭’𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭… 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬𝐧’𝐭.

Your house isn’t spotless, sometimes you don’t know exactly what to do, and your baby isn’t always cooperative. If you’re waiting for the perfect moment… well, I’ll speak to you next year on a Wednesday.

𝐘𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐭. 😔
Your baby won’t stay this small and those first days won’t come back. A little chaos is very normal, feeding in between is also normal, and not knowing what you’re doing… that’s literally every new parent.

So let’s stop trying to make it perfect. A session with me is about slowing down for a moment, holding your baby, looking at them and just being there. I’ll guide you where needed, but nothing is forced.

Just real moments, exactly as they are.

So can we just… go back to allowing things to be imperfect again? To making mistakes, figuring it out, and just being human in all of this, thank you 😘

One year ago today 🤍

This little boy was born… well, not so little anymore.

I still remember this birth like it was yesterday. At 03:15 I was already asleep, but i recieved the message about the contractions had started and at 5:00 I got the call.

I heard a calm voice, but still so cheerful and excited, even at that hour. “You can come, I think it won’t take long.”🥳

So off I went… and not much later, he was there. As fast as the birth went, that’s how fast this year went too (well… kind of 😅).

All those photos I see of him now, smiling, together with his proud sister. No longer that tiny newborn, but a whole little human 🤍

This birth made me cry during a shoot.

Until that day I had never witnessed something so powerful. Never had I seen such raw strength.Never had I seen a woman surrender to her body like that.
And never before had I cried during a shoot.🙈

Birth is something you can’t fully explain until you witness it. It’s powerful, it’s intense and so emotional!

Standing there with my camera I realised something very clearly.
This is what I want to document. Not just the moment a baby is born, but the moment a family is born. All the little details in the room, the vibe, the people. EVERYTHING!

This day planted the seed for my love for birth photography.

𝐅𝐮𝐧 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭: this was my very first birth.
At one point the midwife literally told me: “Keep photographing.” Because I had stopped, standing there with tears in my eyes, completely in awe of what I had just witnessed.

You see my photos… but who is actually behind the camera?

Hi! I’m Melanie, but most people call me Mel. (only my mom calls my full name somethimes, then I know I need to run) 😅

I photograph births, pregnancies and newborns, the most raw and beautiful moments of becoming a family.

But besides being a photographer… here are 5 random facts about me:
1️⃣ I quit my job at the Dutch Navy to follow my own path.
2️⃣ I have serious granny energy… I crochet, love puzzles and slow cozy mornings.
3️⃣ I work as a social media manager at Elite Pet Relocation.
4️⃣ I’m secretly a wannabe farm girl and dream of living self-sufficient with animals one day.
5️⃣ Coffee (especially a flat white with coconut milk) is basically my second love.

𝐈 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡 𝐛𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐬.

Even though I haven’t had the chance to become a mother myself yet, I can imagine that the first weeks after giving birth are a time where you just want to be home.

🧳Not packing bags.
🚗Not driving to a studio.
📍Not dragging your tiny newborn to different locations.

You just want to stay in your own space. Comfortable and safe. In your own little bubble.
And girl… I get that.💁🏽‍♀️

That’s exactly why I don’t have a studio and simply come to your home.

Because I love capturing you while you’re cuddling your baby and staring at them, trying to figure out who they look like.

And yes… the babies in baskets and curled up in pumpkins? Super cute.
But definitely not my thing. 🤷🏽‍♀️

𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨 𝐣𝐨𝐤𝐞, 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐆𝐏𝐓 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐭 🙈

It had been a little while since I had done a photoshoot, but when I delivered their gallery I immediately felt it again: Yes… I missed this.🤩

It truly does something to me as a person.

I always love hearing how people found me. So, when this couple told me they searched for a photographer through ChatGPT and ended up finding me, I secretly felt a little proud. And I also had to laugh… like, how does that even happen? 😂

I’m genuinely very grateful that they trusted me to capture this special moment for their family. 🫶

February 14th The day of love ❤️

Tonight I’m joining the with , this time with the theme of love.

Love is inseparably connected to birth.
You see it in a glance between partners, in a supportive hand, and of course in the powerful moment when new life is welcomed into the world.

As birth photographers, we don’t just capture what happens, we capture what is felt. The love that fills the room. Sometimes strong, sometimes vulnerable, always real.

I chose this photo because the love between them felt so real and effortless. The entire shoot flowed naturally, just the way love is meant to.💕
