Icons of Curaçao

Icons of Curaçao Catch a glimpse of Curaçao through the eyes of photographer Roger Gibbs. Icons of Curaçao presents: The Fishermen’s Project, by Roger Gibbs.

There is no doubt that Curaçao’s fishermen are hard workers. These are men risk their lives on a daily basis in order to make a living. Not only is this lifestyle slowly disappearing on the island, but many fishermen are underappreciated. Fascinated by their perseverance and work ethic, Roger Gibbs took a creative interest in photographing them back in 2003. Armed with a Graflex Super D camera and

a 8 x 10 Deardoff camera from the 1930s and 1940s, Roger Gibbs took on a decade long journey to capture the beauty, passion, danger and seriousness of what fishing as a profession entails on Curaçao. On June 27th 2014, we will catch a glimpse in the lives of Curacao's fishermen through the eyes of Roger Gibbs, at a 1-day gallery showing at NAAM. Icons of Curaçao sets out to do its fair share of corporate social responsibility through photography in the hopes to inspire positive change.

Hi Everyone,

The 1st phase of the Karnaval Project Kickstarter campaign has ended and we raised 1/3 of our $15,000 goal in a short time which is incredible!

As a reminder, Kickstarter is all or nothing, so since we didn't meet the campaign goal the amazing people who donated will not be charged the pledge amount.

I want to personally THANK YOU all so much for being a part of my crowdfunding campaign - what a journey!

Check out the latest video update and stay tuned for PHASE 2 of the Karnaval Project campaign because we're not giving up, we're not stopping, and this beautiful representation of Curacao culture will be produced!

It's Easter Monday! The Holidays are the other end of the spectrum and the culmination of Lent, which started right after we burned King Momo. Karnaval is such an intricate part of our culture and community and we captured all these wonderful moments in a visually stunning coffee table book. You can celebrate carnival all year with this book. Follow our Kickstarter page to own a copy at a reduced price.
