Becky's Travels & Photography

Becky's Travels & Photography As an American long-time expat living in Hong Kong, and also in California, I’ve had endless travel opportunities. I was brave but didn't know it at the time.

It’s been the JOY of my life (2nd only to family) and I‘m grateful every day to be able to witness this world from so many angles 📸. I'm from South Carolina and never saw the inside of an airplane until I turned 19 and flew to Hong Kong (believe it or not). I've lived in HK for 36 years and counting. Photography has always been a love of mine. I took up 'real' photography after my youngest went a

way to college. I've taken one-on-one lessons with a pro-photographer and have done numerous online classes with BPSOP in addition to numerous photography trips. Truly though - EVERY travel adventure is a photography trip to me. My goal with photography has always been to capture my travel and life experiences in a story-telling way. I try to communicate with the people I photograph so I can learn their stories and I love putting these stories on the back of my cards. Another very important goal is to be able to give back through the purchase and sharing of my photographs. I have done this numerous times through donating framed prints for charity auctions, by donating my photography services for the creation of promotional materials to charities and organizations who are short on funds. And I've also helped to document behind-the-scenes, day to day life of our favorite charity in the Philippines, a true gift to me and an eye opener. (ICM - International Care Ministries)
Lastly, I am still honing my craft - still learning - still making ridiculous mistakes and doubting myself here and there..... but my love of photography is real. My desire to perfect my craft is true and imperfect or not I will continue until the world runs out of cameras and sights to see. ;-)

Hands up baby hands up.... give me your heart give me give me your heart give me give me..... or don't. ha ha So..... I'm in the middle of processing photos from my recent Portugal/England trip.... but while organizing photos from April/May, I found this little gem from NYC. Learned a lesson that night about not taking photos in public places. Actually the security guard was very kind and apologized for his hand's up move ;-) But I knew better.

Day 2 ended with a visit to the Tropicana Club where they handed out ci**rs and had a bottle of Rum for every 4 people at every table. Good Lord.

I love to share my cards with friends and family and so I make up little bundles to give away. But I've NEVER worked on packaging. That's ridiculous so I'm working on that now.

The original photo before I apped it up on my phone. This was not an iphone photo. It was taken with my Canon 6D and I'll need to check the lens but I believe it was a 70/200 2.8 Canon lens.

The delightful thing about this photo was that I didn't have to work for it (except for holding my camera steady). We were at an amazing Monastery on the way to Inle Lake.
I had been trying to get a good close up of the young monks-in-training on our short stop here but they would disappear too quickly or they were in bad light. I walked behind one of the buildings where some of the ladies who work there were taking a break. They were speaking with this young fella and he was smiling and in a very relaxed mood. I just snapped away and thanked him afterwards with a smile and thumbs up.

This is a few steps beyond amazing. Learning how he took this photo is so interesting. Now this is a photographer serious about his craft. http://www.nhm.ac.uk/visit/wpy/gallery/2016/images/the-wildlife-photojournalist-award-story/5139/entwined-lives.html

After three days of climbing up and down himself, he hid several GoPro cameras in the canopy, triggering them remotely from the forest floor when he saw the orang-utan…
