To any Adventurous Souls out there,
I know it's been a while since my last post with Go Outdoor Photography, unfortunately, due to several and personal reasons, I'm no longer able to provide the attention and level of work that this brand deserves, therefore, I've decided to close down this project.

However, a simple and quick goodbye wouldn't be ideal for something that I have invested not only time and money but my own sweat and dedication. This is why I came up with El Cerro Durika: The Last Journey, a love letter to anyone that has been supportive and appreciative of my work throughout the past few years, but mainly, my biggest show of gratitude to my friends and family, every memory I have with them is my most cherished treasure. It's been some crazy and interesting years since I started with this project, and it does bring a tear to my eye (well, perhaps more than one) to say goodbye to what was not only a dream but an idea of what a better world could and should be.

El Cerro Durika was my biggest feat to date, a three-day hike through steep hills and remote forests in the Talamanca Region, a beautiful place full of high peaks and interesting locations to shoot in. Packed with nothing more than my personal phone, I embarked on this journey accompanied with what I'm lucky to call my best friends, Adrian Herrera and Daniel Hernandez, as well as few other crew members which I had the pleasure to meet. Thanks to the expertise of our guide, Omar Zuñiga, we were successfully able to reach the top of one of the most beautiful peaks in our country and enjoy some epic site sighting that will be forever imprinted in my mind. I do hope these images can transmit the epicness and indescribable feeling of being on those mountain ridges.

I've always considered myself, first and foremost, a nature lover. It's in my deepest instincts, to keep seeking adventure and I know for a fact that this won't be my last trip. It is however, the last one that I'll be doing for GOP. With a few more things left to say, but few little words to actually do so, I thank every single person involved with Go Outdoor Photography, your presence has made this time completely worthwhile.

This is, The Last Journey.

Best,
Alfonso Castro

“So much of our lives are spent interacting with 2D screens. This is such a bummer because there’s a whole 3D world out there! Forest bathing is a break from your phone and computer…from all that noise of social media and email.”
Let's go Forest Bathing all day long!

Jungle Portraits of the Costarrican Caribbean

I spent two days hiking through the Tropical Jungle of the Limon province near Guapiles. Shooting conditions were extremely hard due to constant rain and humid weather, however, I was able to pull up a small series of (vertical) jungle oriented photographs of the chaotic beauty of the caribbean jungle.

3 weeks later I went on a second trip to Rio Blanco and shoot the beautiful colors and shapes of the Caribbean Jungle! So happy to share the results!

Special thanks to Dani Hernandez, my companion and partner for the first part of this trip; to Fernando, my middle brother and Jorge, my father for accompanying me through this wild adventure.

Lastly, big shout out and appreciation to Don Hugo, our host in a lovely shack away from civilization. You can reach him out for guided tours through all the beautiful and remote waterfalls of Bellavista in Guapiles: +506 8405 9220

The Oceans are getting warmer each year, and devastating consequences come along with it. The Blob, a giant patch of warm water is hitting the Pacific giving us a glance of our future.
We must act now to keep this a healthy planet.

A giant patch of warm water known as the blob shocks the Pacific, in what some fear is a preview of our future oceans.

This is serious and absolutely ALARMING! We need to change course now.

Most people do not realize the repercussions that disasters like the Fukushima nuclear meltdown have on the world. When it happens the media is all over it, and then soon they trickle off and nobody ever thinks about it again. But the fact is, even though nobody is talking about it, it does not mean...

--

Costa Rica, a land of forests, beaches and mountains, a natural paradise that in its roughly 51 100 km2 of extension, encloses a rich biodiversity in flora and fauna.

This is where I grew up, where I live and where I will find the end of my road, in this beautiful labyrinth of rivers and valleys; inspiring landscapes that at the same time, they fill us in with melancholy.

For these and a million more reasons, I take pride in saying, I am costarrican, I am, Costa Rica

More faces and beautiful places to be featured soon!
