My background is street photography, but when I moved to Costa Rica I found that there wasn't much scope for it. So I changed my subject matter and started photographing monkeys instead, using the same techniques I employed in street photography: hand held camera, working quickly to try to capture moments of action, interaction, facial expressions etc. I'm still learning but I hope you enjoy the results!

Henry's fame continues to skyrocket. The little git is featured in a magazine in Costa Rica.
(He's also in talks to appear on Celebrity Big Brother, Strictly Come Dancing, and I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here (the last one not as a contestant, but as one of the terrifying jungle beasts that the contestants have to survive)).

In the old days, before I upgraded my camera and developed an obsession with monkeys, I used a 35mm street photography camera which was not ideal for photographing Costa Rica's wildlife. Apparently I tried anyway though, as this image, which I just discovered in my email archive folder, will testify 😂🐒

Today I discovered that there is such a thing as a red leaf monkey, and it might be my new favorite monkey. Native to Borneo, apparently.
It definitely deserves to be Monkey of the Day 🐒🎉

Monkey of the Year was too busy skulking aloofly in his tree, writing poetry and listening to the Velvet Underground, to make a comment but I'm sure that beneath that cool and moody facade he feels deeply honoured and grateful to all who voted.
