I’m sitting in Charlotte waiting for my last leg home to Savannah and boy am I missing these views from our lodge in Kake.

Alaska exceeded all expectations, from vistas to wildlife and most especially the lovely people we met along the way. Next July can’t come soon enough! I hope you’ll think about joining me on this small group workshop experience. 🫍🐋🦭🦅⛰️

When one breach simply isn’t enough.

An incredible stretch of time with this humpback whale in Alaska, watching it breach again and again against a constantly changing back trouble of mountains forest clouds and light.

And while the close encounters were spectacular, I found myself just as drawn to the wider frames- the ones that give the whale some room and tell you something about where we were.

Our boat captain could not have done better getting us into excellent position while maintaining distance and respecting the whales environment. Thank you A Whale's Song Expeditions !

Harbor seal seen today in Frederick Sound, Petersburg, AK.

Harbor seals haul out to rest, regulate body temperature, digest food, avoid some aquatic predators, and, depending on the season, molt or nurse pups.

Every workshop teaches me something, too.
