The Video Quality Is Terrible. The Memory Is Priceless.
When I first came to Colombia, I had an iPhone 7.
By today’s standards, this video isn’t impressive. The quality isn’t great. The footage is shaky. The camera certainly wasn’t professional.
But every time I watch it, I’m reminded that the most important moments in life aren’t measured in megapixels.
This video captures a young guy discovering a country that would completely change his life.
It captures my growing love for the culture, the people, the food, the music, and the warmth that I found here. It captures the beginning of friendships, adventures, and experiences that I never could have imagined.
And somewhere in that journey, it captured the beginning of a love story.
A love story that, years later, became my happily ever after.
As a photographer, I’ve learned that the best images aren’t always the sharpest. They aren’t always taken with the most expensive camera. The best images are the ones that make you feel something years later.
This little iPhone 7 video may not be technically perfect, but it captured the start of a life that I now can’t imagine living without.
For that reason alone, it will always be one of my favorite videos I’ve ever taken.
Sometimes the quality isn’t what matters.
The story is.
