PERDIZ CHILENA 🐦 ( Nothoprocta perdicaria )

🇪🇸 Especie endémica de Chile, aunque existen algunos registros de su presencia en la frontera con Argentina. Fue introducida en Isla de Pascua en 1888, en donde es común de ver. Al ser una de las aves de caza más preciadas, su número se ha reducido mucho en los últimos años, especialmente en el norte de su rango de distribución.
🇺🇸 Chilean tinamou
Species endemic to Chile, although there are some records of its presence on the border with Argentina. It was introduced on Easter Island in 1888, where it is commonly seen. Being one of the most prized game birds, its numbers have been greatly reduced in recent years, especially in the north of its range.

TAGUA DE FRENTE ROJA 🐦 ( Fulica rufifrons )

🇪🇸 Muy similar a la Tagua Común (Fulica armillata), pero se diferencia fácilmente por su escudo frontal rojo.
Su coloración, como el de las otras Taguas, es cabeza y cuello negros, más intenso que el resto del cuerpo que es negruzco ceniciento, siendo algo más claro el pecho y abdomen. Las subcaudales laterales son blancas. Su escudete frontal es afinado, terminado en punta y de color rojo intenso oscuro. El resto del pico es amarillo fuerte. Patas amarillo verdosas. Iris rojo.

Very similar to the Common Tagua (Fulica armillata), but easily differentiated by its red frontal shield.
Its coloration, like that of the other Taguas, is black head and neck, more intense than the rest of the body which is blackish-blackish ashen, being somewhat lighter on the chest and abdomen. The lateral subcaudals are white. Its frontal scutum is tapering, pointed and deep dark red. The rest of the bill is bright yellow. Legs are greenish yellow. Iris red.

Cernícalo 🦅 ( Falco sparverius )

🇪🇦 La especie habita prácticamente todo el continente americano. La subespecie cinnamominus se distribuye desde Atacama a Tierra del Fuego. De preferencia en áreas abiertas, cultivos, praderas, zonas de arbusto/matorral, bordes de bosques y pastizales, también en ciudades. De 0 a 3.800 msnm. La subespecie peruvianus es residente en el extremo norte y habita en valles y cordilleras intermedias de Arica y en menor medida en la pre-cordillera y oasis de Tarapacá. La subespecie fernandensis se encuentra solo en la Isla Robinson Crusoe y Alejandro Selkirk (Archipiélago de Juan Fernández). Prefiere pastizales hacia la parte oriental de la Isla Robinson Crusoe.
🇺🇸 American kestrel
The species inhabits practically the entire American continent. The subspecies cinnamominus is distributed from Atacama to Tierra del Fuego. Preferably in open areas, crops, grasslands, bush/scrub areas, forest edges and pastures, also in cities. From 0 to 3,800 meters above sea level. The subspecies peruvianus is resident in the extreme north and inhabits valleys and intermediate mountain ranges of Arica and to a lesser extent in the pre-cordillera and oasis of Tarapacá. The subspecies fernandensis is found only on Robinson Crusoe Island and Alejandro Selkirk (Juan Fernández Archipelago). It prefers grasslands towards the eastern part of Robinson Crusoe Island.

CHINCOL 🐦 ( Zonotrichia capensis chilensis )

Un regalón de la cuenta😍
🇪🇸 Del estilo del Gorrión ( ) aunque algo más pequeño y de estructura más liviana, se distingue principalmente por la gran mancha rufescente o rojiza en el cuello.
Vive en todos los campos, huertos y jardines desde Atacama hasta las islas Guaitecas (norte de la region de Aysén), en donde alegra con su canto característico aunque no muy melodioso, ya que se compone de solo cuatro notas que se repiten. Si bien en el campo sigue siendo numeroso, en la ciudad ha tenido que cederle terreno al Gorrión, ave europea traida por primera vez en 1904, y que se propagó con extraordinaria rapidez, primero por toda la zona central y actualmente por todo Chile.
Dentro de la cultura popular chilena se le conoce también como "tío Agustín", ya que el sonido de su vocalización pareciera decir "has visto a mi tío Agustin".

RARA 🐦 ( Phytotoma rara )

🇪🇸 Una de las pocas aves herbívoras de tamaño pequeño, lo que la hace muy "rara". Las aves herbívoras que a uno se le viene a la cabeza suelen ser grandes como las avestruces, ñandúes o emúes.
Distintiva encontrada en una variedad de hábitats boscosos y semiabiertos, desde jardines en la ciudad hasta prados y ciénagas en las estribaciones andinas. A menudo se ve perchada en los cables de carreteras. Se alimenta de hojas nuevas, flores y, con frecuencia, corta la grama del césped. El macho es llamativo, con las partes inferiores ferruginosas brillantes, parches blancos en las alas y ojos rojo rubí. La hembra es mucho más sencilla, con partes inferiores rayadas y ojos rojo rubí. La banda rojiza en la base de la cola es a menudo difícil de ver.
🇺🇸 Rufous-tailed plantcutter
One of the few herbivorous birds of small size, which makes it very "rare". Herbivorous birds that come to mind are usually large like ostriches, rheas or emus.

Run-run 🐦 ( Hymenops perspicillata )

🇪🇦 Macho (En esta Foto 📷): Todo el plumaje negro, plumas de la punta de las alas blancas, patas negras, pico amarillo. Ojo negro con anillo periocular amarillo.
Hembra: Por encima es café oscuro, el pecho y el abdomen son de color café claro con estrías longitudinales negras en el pecho. Las alas primarias son de color canela rojizo y con las puntas negras, pico amarillo, el ojo negro con anillo periocular amarillo.
Habita gran parte del sur de Sudamérica, poblando Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay y sectores de Brasil y Bolivia.
En Chile se encuentra principalmente desde la región de Atacama hasta la región de Los lagos, aunque hay numerosos registros en algunos sectores de las regiones de Aysén y Magallanes.
Habita en totorales, juncales, vegas, bordes de ríos y lagunas.
Es un ave migratoria que se reproduce en Chile. Para este viaje los machos emprenden vuelo más menos un mes antes que las hembras.
🇺🇸 Spectacled Tyrant
Male (In this Photo 📷): All plumage black, wing tip feathers white, legs black, bill yellow. Eye black with yellow periocular ring.
Female: Above is dark brown, breast and abdomen are light brown with black longitudinal striations on breast. Primary wings are reddish cinnamon with black tips, yellow bill, black eye with yellow periocular ring.
It inhabits much of southern South America, populating Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay and parts of Brazil and Bolivia.
In Chile it is found mainly from the region of Atacama to the region of Los Lagos, although there are numerous records in some sectors of the regions of Aysén and Magallanes.
It inhabits reedbeds, reedbeds, meadows, riverbanks and lagoons.
It is a migratory bird that breeds in Chile. For this trip the males take flight at least one month before the females.

COMETOCINO PATAGÓNICO 🐦 ( Phrygilus patagonicus )

🇪🇸 Esta foto fue tomada este verano en las cercanías de . Este ejemplar macho estuvo por varios días en el jardín de mis abuelos. Lo observé por días hasta que logre realizar el retrato.
Tangara pequeña y atractiva; se encuentra en bosques húmedos y arboledas en el sur de Chile y Argentina adyacente. A menudo en grupos, especialmente en invierno, y se alimenta desde el suelo hasta lo alto de los árboles. El distintivo macho tiene una capucha gris y la espalda dorada. Las hembras e inmaduros son similares al (Gray-hooded Sierra-Finch), pero tienen más amarillo abajo y las marcas del bigotes son más débiles.
🇺🇸 Patagonian Sierra-finch
This photo was taken this summer near . This male was in my grandparents' garden for several days. I watched him for days until I managed to take a portrait.
Small and attractive tanager; found in humid forests and woodlands in southern Chile and adjacent Argentina. Often in groups, especially in winter, and feeds from the ground to high in the trees. The distinctive male has a gray hood and golden back. Females and immatures are similar to (Gray-hooded Sierra-Finch), but have more yellow below and the whisker markings are fainter.

PEUCO 🦅 (Parabuteo unicinctus unicinctus)

🇪🇸 Muy agresivo con otra aves y de vuelo rápido. Es posible verlos en ciudades en donde se nota su presencia por las bandadas de palomas que vuelan en sus cercanías en forma nerviosa y errática, indicándoles de esta manera a otras aves el peligro existente.
El hecho de que se alimente de aves de corral, lo hace ser considerado como perjudicial por los campesinos, los cuales los cazan siendo la principal amenaza de esta especie.
🇺🇸 Harris's hawk
Very aggressive with other birds and fast flying. It is possible to see them in cities where their presence is noticed by the flocks of pigeons that fly in their vicinity in a nervous and erratic way, thus indicating to other birds the existing danger.
The fact that it feeds on poultry, makes it be considered as harmful by farmers, who hunt them being the main threat to this species.

CARANCHO CORDILLERANO 🦅 ( Daptrius megalopterus )

🇪🇸 ¡Nombre científico actualizado! OJO 👀
Normalmente se le encuentra en toda la linea de Los Andes desde el extremo Norte hasta Colchagua por el Sur.
En el extremo Norte, preferentemente en la zona de la Puna y la precordillera, llegando ocasionalmente a los cerros de la costa.
Hacia el Sur, la literatura normalmente lo cita hasta Colchagua; sin embargo, en eBird-Chile se muestran numerosos registros mas sureños, siendo el mas meridional en el Volcán Villarrica, lo que implica una ampliación considerable en su rango de dispersion
Ave solitaria y tímida, se le suele encontrar sola o en parejas, rehuyendo la presencia del hombre. Sin embargo, en la zona norte es posible ver estas aves comiendo de los basurales cerca de las casas, al igual que el Tiuque, su pariente cercano.
