This lonely male is a regular visitor of the "monument to the wind" an iconic statue set on the shore of Puerto Natales. From there it watches untils he gets a good chance to fish his supper.

The healer
While trying to hunt a Loica, a hunter was injured on the chest when his shotgun exploded. As he was bleeding, lying on the ground , the Loica flew to the river several times carrying water to help the injured man, the bird saved the hunter but while doing so it got a blood stain on the chest giving the red colour to it's feathers.

There are several myths and legends about the origin of the red chest of the Leistes loyca (Loica), known in mapuche culture to be a healer and a good omen.
