Peripheral Images Photography Visual Wanderlust: Travel Photography by Christina M. Ridley For me, photography is a way to express my creativity. I hope you enjoy! Christina

It has been a passion of mine since the time before digital cameras! I still enjoy taking my dads old Fujica film SLR out once in a while, but I also appreciate the versatility of the digital cameras. I've been lucky enough to have discovered the joy of traveling and the beauty in experiencing new cultures and places. I'm inspired by rustic landscapes as well as old, decaying buildings. I can't ge

t enough of Latin America, which you may notice is heavily featured in my shop. I also enjoy the natural beauty of Canada and the quirky small towns of America. I'm currently in the middle of my PhD in Calgary, Canada. Although I'm scientifically minded, there is definitely not a lot of science involved in my photography; I rely mostly on instinct and feeling, which works out every once in a while! I'm drawn more to the unconventional images, but of course, a beautiful shot is a beautiful shot and I'll never deny it a spot in my library. I opened up Peripheral Images because I wanted to share my photography with like-minded people around the world.

📍Santiago, Chile 🇨🇱 (2020)
Have you ever wondered what it would look like to swim under an ocean of cotton candy? I hadn't, until I saw this sunset last night.

Santiago sunsets in the winter are often pretty epic due to weather systems coming from the south but last night was extra spectacular due to an atmospheric river (complete with gravity waves) washing over the city.

📍Altiplano, Chile 🇨🇱 (2020)
At over 4200 meters above sea level, the Altiplano seems like another world. It's also one of the driest areas on earth, but my trip back in January coincided with the first rains in 11 months. I feel pretty lucky to have had a rare glimpse of such dramatic weather is such a cool landscape!

I took this photo in the southwest region of the Altiplano (aka the Andian Plain) on the Chilean side close to the Bolivian border.

📍Parque Nacional Patagonia, Aysén, Patagonia, Chile 🇨🇱 .

Clear skies in Parque Nacional Patagonia are apparently a rare thing but I was lucky! This place is so remote that the stars were out in full force. The thought of getting eaten by a puma, licked by a guanaco or sprayed by a skunk crossed my mind (all real possibilities at this campsite), but I love star trail photos enough to risk it. This 60 min exposure was from 11:30pm (just after dusk) to 12:30am. One of my favorite pictures from the trip!.. consulted on fine focusing due to night (🍷) blindness 😆

New year's eve day this year was spend doing an ice trek on (an in!) Glaciar Exploradores in northern Patagonia. It was a great way to close out the year but also a reminder of how climate change is touching every corner of our planet. Before reaching the ever-changing ice field and caves, we walked almost 1 km over earth that was glacier-covered only 5 years ago.

Still, it was an amazing experience. Hopefully we can do the hard work to make sure these beautiful places are still around for future generations to enjoy!

📍Puerto Rio Tranquilo, Aysén, Patagonia, Chile 🇨🇱

This year my Dec/Jan holidays were spent soaking in the beauty of the Carretera Austral in northern Patagonia. It was an amazing 3 weeks driving over 2500 km on some crazy roads. The often hair-raising "highway" (aka dirt roads with heavy washboard) really limits the amount of people that are willing to explore this circuit but it's remoteness only enhances its beauty. Plus, the people you meet along the way are definitely interesting adventures.

My first post from the trip... Capillas de Marmol: one of the most unique stops in the road. A boat tour takes you to the "marble chapels", which are super cool marble formations raising out of the crazy blue Lago General Carrera.

Paddling in the Rockies with this time last year. A nice calm morning before a super windy afternoon.... but that's okay, we're strong 💪🏽

Fall is coming! Love seeing the Alpine Larch trees turn from green to bright yellow... it also means that winter isn't far behind.

To call this place "other worldly" would be an understatement!
