I'm a fine art photographer and photo-encaustic artist who creates limited edition prints inspired by horses for art collectors, hotels, designers and brands.

They believe that Horses inspire us to have faith and believe in positive outcomes within our life. I find this truly inspiring and I’d love to think that the artwork I make has a little of this spirit and belief running through the very core of all my artwork as each and every horse I’m lucky enough to share a moment with and photograph is very special to me. This Saturday's Art on the Moor cyanotype workshop will be the last one I run on the moor this year.

We'll meet at Standedge Cutting at 10:00 am, gather flora growing around us, and use it to make prints together, the same process behind my Elemental series.
You'll come away with your own prints, plus tea, coffee, and a sweet treat. Saturday's forecast is looking like the driest, calmest morning of the week, so it should be a beautiful way to close out the season.

Yesterday, news came in of a wildfire spreading across heathland in the New Forest, started by a car fire and carried into the open countryside by how dry everything is right now.

I’ve spent so much time in that landscape, photographing the New Forest ponies and the wide open heath they call home. It’s such a special place, and it’s hard not to feel the weight of what this fire means for it.

Globally, heathland is rarer than rainforest, and takes decades to develop. This particular stretch is a stronghold for smooth snakes, and home to Dartford warblers, nightjar, and much more besides. The ancient trees nearby, some centuries old, cannot be replaced if lost. Heathland can eventually recover. Ancient woodland cannot.

I’m heading away for a few weeks now, and my social media will go quiet while I’m gone. But before I do, a gentle reminder as you’re out enjoying the countryside this summer: the land is tinder dry at the moment. A dropped cigarette, a spark, a moment’s carelessness, and the impact can be devastating for the wildlife, the ecosystem, and the people who call these places home.

Please take care of the wild places we’re lucky enough to still have.

Sea Horse.

There's an old belief in the Camargue that these horses were born of the sea itself, foaled from the foam where the Rhône meets the Mediterranean, belonging to no one.
This image is from a body of work I made in the Camargue back in 2022. I've been returning to it recently through cyanotype, horse, water and sky folded into a single blue, until the line between them disappears entirely.

Sea Horse is the first piece to come from that return, and this month's Collectors Circle release, an edition of 10, available only to members.

Thank you to the wonderful ladies who joined me for my first cyanotype course to make art on the moor! It was lovely spending time together.

Cyanotype Workshop — On The Moor

There’s a moment in this process I never get tired of, watching the print wash in the water, the image slowly settling as everything unnecessary lifts away.

Conwy Mountain is burning. Sychnant Pass is thick with smoke this morning, and fire crews say it may take some time yet.

I keep thinking about the Carneddau ponies — the ones I walked amongst for Wild Hearts, half-wild and utterly unbothered by me. That land is the only home they’ve ever known.

This morning, word came that they’ve been moved to safety. I won’t pretend I wasn’t holding my breath until I heard it.

They’ve outlasted fire on that mountain before, long before any of us were watching. I’m hoping, that they are all safe.

Travelling across Britain for six years photographing rare native horse breeds, I found myself drawn deeper and deeper into the wild landscapes they inhabit. The horses brought me to the moor. The moor never let me go.

A year-long exploration on Saddleworth Moor, capturing the seasonal transformation of this wild Pennine landscape through cyanotype. The length of time a print is exposed can vary dramatically, sometimes ten minutes, sometimes over an hour. I wait, and watch. The weather up here changes fast, and there's something almost meditative in sitting with that uncertainty, letting the land decide when the print is ready.

Over that time you watch it react to the sunlight and the land itself, pale green-yellow moving through to rust browns and deep blues. You can never quite predict the outcome. To fix it, I use water gathered from the moor, tannin-rich peat bog water, leaving a unique imprint of the moorland as it was that day. Nothing taken from the land. Only the print I leave with.
