Two spreads from my upcoming book
TRIESTE – ENTER THE FOG.

A detour behind the station, an old harbour, a street with no people. Then the fog rolls in from the sea and the mood quietly shifts. No plot, no destination — just walking, looking, moving on.

Kickstarter launches Monday at noon:

The first 10 copies will be available at a reduced price.

I was young and daring 🔥

Flashback:
Selfie on the rooftop of Espace Louis Vuitton in Omotesandō, Tokyo (Jan 2011). I was documenting Xavier Veilhan’s exhibition there, including the overnight construction of his kinetic sculptures.

For several days I barely slept: nights spent photographing workers as they installed the pieces, days at my office editing the images. From the completion of the installation to the opening ceremony we had only 16 hours—barely enough time to design, print, and bind a luxury book for the launch. I finished everything overnight—making an all-nighter until 5:30 in the morning—so the files could reach the Japanese printer just in time.

Before the opening I managed only 2–3 hours of sleep. At the party that evening—held at the ultra-exclusive Le Baron de Paris—I was close to collapsing. The next morning I was supposed to shoot an exclusive portrait session for Madame (France), but I simply overslept.

I missed the shooting. The editor — a very elegant woman in her fifties — and Xavier Veilhan were waiting for me but I didn’t show up.

I was devastated when I finally woke up at noon.

I called the editor-in-chief and she expected an apology. In the afternoon I met her. I showed up with a box of Japanese chocolates, embarrassed, and apologized. She accepted it graciously. Fortunately, I already had enough strong portraits of Veilhan to deliver a solid selection, and the magazine ended up running a double spread plus two single pages.

Good times.

(I just stumbled upon this photo again while working on my portfolio.)
