“take a look at what people photograph and you will know what they are afraid of losing.”

i stumbled across this quote many times in the past few weeks and somehow it got me thinking.

did you know that for the last year or two, I’ve kept asking myself: why do I even photograph horses?
is “because I like them” enough of an answer?

most of the time i take photos of other people’s animals. my passion is equine photography, yet I don’t even own a horse. i very rarely take photos of my own souldog, the one animal I actually couldn’t imagine losing.

so why horses?

i adore horses so much, i don’t need to own them or even have a relationship with them to feel their worth. when i'm around them, the world feels quieter and slower.

horses don’t try to be impressive, and yet they are. they don’t wonder if they’re falling behind or question whether they’re doing enough. and somehow, around them, you start to feel like you are enough too.

so maybe that quote was right after all.

i take photos of horses because i don’t want to lose what being around them makes me feel.
the lightness. the silence. the being present.

i loved these images from the very first second and still didn’t dare to share them for an entire year.

they’ve been sitting on my hard drive ever since, even though they’re the exact images that brought me so much joy while creating them. they actually felt like creating, not like making content. looking back it feels a little sad that I almost convinced myself these images didn't belong here.
