KRANHÄUSER KÖLN 🔸 Definitiv ein Fotomotiv, dass ich auf meiner Liste hatte. So sind wir die Rheinterrassen entlang über die Deutzer Drehbrücke gegangen, um nach der idealen Position Ausschau zu halten. Fotografiert mal mit Langzeitbelichtung, ein fast perfekter Sonnenstern am Eck eines Kranhauses und die Deutzer Drehbrücke.

Die Kranhäuser im Kölner Rheinhafen sind jeweils ca. 61m hoch. Sie sind eine moderne Interpretation der 1924 geschaffenen Wolkenbügel von El Lissitzky und sind Hafenkränen mit Ausleger Richtung Rhein nachempfunden. Während Kranhaus Süd und Mitte als Bürogebäude fungieren, befinden sich im Nordhaus Luxusappartments.

Definitely a photo motif that had been on my list for a while. So we walked along the Rhine promenade and crossed the Deutz swing bridge, keeping an eye out for the ideal vantage point. Captured with a long exposure, featuring an almost perfect sunstar at the corner of one of the Crane Houses and the Deutz swing bridge.

The Crane Houses in Cologne’s Rhine Harbour are each around 61 metres tall. They are a modern interpretation of the Wolkenbügel (“cloud-irons”) designed by El Lissitzky in 1924 and are modelled on harbour cranes with cantilevers extending towards the Rhine. While the South and Central Crane Houses are used as office buildings, the North Crane House contains luxury apartments.

MAI 2026 🔸Höllgrotte Baar -> Köln -> Mannheim -> Seleger Moor. Meine Wochenenden im Mai waren voller schöner Erlebnisse. Freunde treffen, Fussball Frauen Pokalfinale gucken und Natur.

Höllgrotten Baar → Cologne → Mannheim → Seleger Moor. My weekends in May were full of wonderful experiences: meeting friends, watching the Women’s Football Cup Final, and enjoying nature.

DOM MOMENTS 🔸 Manche Orte habe ich auf meiner Must-See Bucket List. Der Kölner Dom gehörte dazu. Erbaut zwischen 1248-1880 ragt er über die Stadt und wirkt aus jedem Blickwinkel anders – mal monumental, mal filigran, mal fast unwirklich zwischen den Wolken. 👀

Beim Schlendern durch Köln bleibt der Blick automatisch an seinen Türmen hängen. Ein Bauwerk voller Geschichte. ⛪️

Some places have always been on my bucket list, and Cologne Cathedral was definitely one of them. Built between 1248 and 1880, it towers above the city and seems to take on a different character from every angle — sometimes monumental, sometimes delicate, and sometimes almost surreal against the clouds. 👀

As you wander through Cologne, your eyes are constantly drawn back to its iconic twin towers. A remarkable piece of history and one of those landmarks that leaves a lasting impression. ⛪️

SCHLÖSSERPARADE 🔸 Wer in Köln über die Hohenzollernbrücke auf die andere Rheinseite flaniert, kommt an den Schlössern nicht vorbei. Jetzt kann man einfach vorbeilaufen, oder, so wie wir das gemacht haben, man sucht sich Motive zum Fotografieren. 📸🚶🏽‍♀️

Den Brauch gibt es seit ca. 2008. Die genaue Herkunft der Schlössertradition ist unklar, wird allerdings in Italien in Zusammenhang mit einem Brauch in der Stadt Rom vermutet. Wusstet ihr, dass das geschätzte Gewicht ca. 40-60 Tonnen entspricht, was ungefähr das Gewicht von einem Regionalexpress ist. Das zusätzliche Gewicht stellt für die Brücke aktuell keine Gefahr dar. 🔒🌉

Strolling across Cologne’s Hohenzollernbrücke to the other side of the Rhine, you simply can’t miss the love locks. You could walk right past them — or, like we did, turn it into a little photo hunt. 📸🚶

The tradition dates back to around 2008. Where it actually originated is a bit of a mystery, though it’s widely believed to have roots in Italy, linked to a custom in Rome. Here’s an interesting fact: the locks are estimated to weigh somewhere between 40 and 60 tonnes — roughly the same as a regional train. Impressive as that sounds, the bridge is currently handling it just fine. 🔒🌉

SELEGER MOOR 🔸 In diesem Jahr den perfekten Zeitpunkt für den Besuch im Seleger Moor erwischt. Es war ein wahres Blütenspektakel der Azaleen und der Rhododendren. Durch das nasse Wetter in den letzten Tagen, war es bei den Farnen wunderbar grün. Ein Traumtag. Neben all der Pracht war der Barfussweg ein Highlight. Schuhe aus und die volle Packung Moorschlammbad geniessen.

This year, I picked the perfect time to visit the Seleger Moor. It was a true spectacle of blooming azaleas and rhododendrons. Thanks to the rainy weather over the past few days, the ferns were glowing in the most vibrant shades of green. An absolute dream of a day.

And beyond all the floral beauty, the barefoot trail was a real highlight. Shoes off and fully embrace the muddy bog experience.

Der Tag begann mit dichten Wolken und Schneefall, und wir mussten auf einen Plan B umsteigen. Als sich das Wetter etwas besserte, machten wir uns auf den Weg nach draussen und später liefen wir hinauf zum Aussichtspunkt — und das nicht nur einmal an diesem Tag, sondern gleich zweimal. Später am Abend, nach dem Abendessen, wurde ich mit meiner allerersten Begegnung mit Lady Aurora belohnt. ✨💚

Die Lady-Aurora-Animation im Video wurde mithilfe von KI aus einem meiner Fotos erstellt, welches ich am Aussichtspunkt aufgenommen habe. 🤖

As the day began under heavy clouds and snowfall, we had to switch to a backup plan. But once the weather finally cleared, we headed back out and later made our way up to the viewpoint — not just once that day, but twice. And later that night, after dinner, I was rewarded with my very first encounter with Lady Aurora. ✨💚

LADY AURORA 🔸 Zuerst ein gemütliches Abendessen und dann innerhalb von 10min. umziehen und los. Es hatte sich eine Wolkenlücke aufgetan. Also nochmal hoch auf den Aussichtspunkt. Diesmal in einem schnelleren Tempo, denn jede Minute war kostbare Zeit. 🕦

Zum ersten Mal kam ich in den Genuss das tanzende Spektakel am Himmel zu beobachten - wild, elegant und lebendig. Es war überwältigend und ich hatte Tränen in den Augen. Zwischendurch hab ich vergessen zu fotografieren, weil ich einfach nur gucken und geniessen wollte.

Ein unvergessliches Erlebnis. Das erste Mal Lady Aurora werde ich nie vergessen. 💚

We had a cozy dinner — and then suddenly, within 10 minutes, we changed the clothes and rushing out the door. A gap had opened the clouds, revealing a chance we couldn’t miss. So back up to the viewpoint we went, this time I moved much faster, because every single minute felt precious. 🕦

And then it happened.

For the very first time, I witnessed the dancing spectacle across the night sky. The Aurora moved above us like magic — wild, graceful, alive. I was completely overwhelmed, standing there with tears in my eyes. More than once, I forgot to take photos because all I wanted was to look up, to be present, and to soak in every second of it.

An unforgettable moment. I’ll never forget the first time I met Lady Aurora. 💚

BAD WEATHER 🔸 Am nächsten Tag hatten wir wenig Glück mit dem Wetter. Den Vormittag verbrachten wir in den Häusern inkl. Abstecher in den Hot Tube. Später fuhren wir zum Kungsleden Canyon. Um uns noch ein bisschen zu bewegen, liefen ein paar von uns in Björkliden zu einem Aussichtspunkt hoch. Nichts ahnend, dass ich an dem Tag ein zweites Mal dort oben stehen würde. Die anschliessende Belohnung war eine heisse Schokolade im Hotel Fjället.

The next day, the weather wasn’t on our side. We spent the morning indoors, with a quick detour to the hot tub. Later, we drove to Kungsleden Canyon. To get some fresh air and stretch our legs, a few of us hiked up to a viewpoint in Björkliden — little did I know I’d find myself up there a second time that same day. Afterwards, we rewarded ourselves with a hot chocolate at Hotel Fjället.
