A big thank you to Sigma for inviting me to the FP2 launch event! It was great to get a first look at the new camera and see some of Sigma’s latest lenses in person.

Already looking forward to putting them to the test and seeing what they can do in real-world shooting conditions!

Thanks go out to

Every autumn, the starlings start gathering 🐦
In summer the young ones are still plain brown. By autumn they’ve moulted into a coat full of white spots, and thousands of them flock together. Shortly before dark they swirl over their roost as one cloud.
The trick: each bird only follows its 6–7 nearest neighbours. That’s how a turn ripples through the whole flock in an instant, and why a hawk struggles to pick out a single bird.
By spring the white tips wear off and the glossy green-purple shows through.

Tell me what you’d like me to cover next! 💡

I have plenty of lighting ideas, but I want to know what you would like to learn more about.

Maybe it’s lighting setups, how to use LEDs, getting the most out of your flash, or exploring what’s possible with a speedlight.

No question is too basic, and no idea is too specific. Let me know in the comments, and I might turn it into a future tutorial!

Switzerland’s only national park, left completely to nature since 1914 🌲
No hunting, no grazing, no forestry: just larch forests turning gold, cold mountain streams and red deer keeping an eye on us from the slopes.

Swipe to the end for the last light on the way home.

Comment „Plan“ to get the Shot Plan
I used the Sony A1 II with the Sigma 85mm F1.2 DG Art for these portraits. The lens delivered beautiful image quality, a flattering perspective, and a very shallow depth of field that helped separate the subjects from the background.

For storage, I relied on Angelbird UHS-II 128 GB V90 cards and a CFexpress Type A 512 GB card.

Bright lights. Clenched fists. Four lenses, one relentless night. 🥊🔥

We brought the Sigma Art (and Sports) lineup into a kickboxing tournament — start to finish — to see what glass this fast actually survives.

→ 85mm F1.4 Art — the workhorse of the night. Corner-stool portraits, sweat and strategy, background melted into nothing
→ 35mm F1.2 Art — the room, the hype, the chaos before the bell
→ 200mm F2.0 DG OS | Sports — ringside without stepping in the ring, freezing every strike

Carried on the Sony A1 II, backed up on Angelbird CFexpress cards, and hanging steady the whole night thanks to the PGYTECH Camera Strap Master. The Tamron 16-30mm and 35-150mm were in the bag too for the wide shots and the reportage moments.

One event, a full arsenal of glass, every mood of the night — swipe through. ➡️

Testing the all-new Sigma 85mm F1.2 DG | Art in an environment where autofocus and image quality actually matter.

I took it to a kickboxing tournament organised by Xplosiv Fight Night and used it to capture fast action under challenging arena lighting. What stood out immediately was the sharpness — even wide open at f/1.2, the level of detail is exceptional.
A huge thanks to Ott + Wyss for giving me the opportunity to test the lens before its official release.

More images and my full impressions coming soon.

How to create a Rembrandt-inspired portrait setup for around $200💡

For this setup, I used the Godox IT32 flash with a beauty dish, both around $100 each. You can also recreate this with cheaper alternatives and get a very similar look.

I positioned the light to create a classic Rembrandt-inspired lighting pattern, with the characteristic triangle of light on the shadow side of the face.

The result is a timeless, dramatic portrait look using just one flash and one modifier.

How to create this cinematic spotlight look with a setup under $600 💡

For this portrait, I used a 150W RGB Godox light behind the subject, slightly to one side and out of frame, to light the background.

For the subject, I used a 100W bi-colour Godox light with a projection attachment, positioned to the right of the camera at eye level. This creates the circular spotlight on the background while also lighting the subject.

The result is a cinematic, editorial look with just two lights and a setup under $600.
