"Red and black" in Lanzarote refers to the island's spectacular volcanic hues.

This dramatic landscape is particularly visible in Timanfaya National Park, where the "fire mountains" offer a striking contrast between dark rock and ochre sands.

These colors come directly from the island's geological activity:

Black: This characterizes the solidified lava, rocks, and volcanic sand (picón) that covers much of the island. This very fertile soil is traditionally used to retain moisture for local crops.

Red: Present in the rocks and mountains of certain specific areas, this mineral is oxidized and gives the landscape a Martian appearance.
