Herzlich Willkommen auf der offiziellen Facebook-Seite von SIGMA Schweiz! / Bienvenue sur la page officielle Facebook de SIGMA Suisse! / Welcome on the official page of SIGMA Switzerland!

Quite deliberately this name was chosen in accordance to the Greek letter S which means the sum in math. The corporate philosophy which is connected with this name is consequently applied in the development and production of all Sigma products since its founding 50 years ago. Not least because of this reason SIGMA is one of the leading manufacturers of lenses, cameras and flash units. In 2008 Sigma takes over the company Foveon, the developer of the unique 3 layer colour sensitive image sensor which is assembled in all SIGMA cameras.

SIGMA 35mm F1.4 DG II | Art

« I took the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG II Art directly with me on my trip to Rome, and it quickly became one of the few lenses that was always within reach. If it were my own copy, it would permanently live in my bag.

In a city like Rome, I absolutely loved the focal length. The lens provided enough context to communicate the scale and atmosphere of a location without images feeling too wide or too tight. Sharpness remained highly consistent even towards the edges, distortion stayed very well controlled, and autofocus remained fast and reliable.

The lens impressed me most during nighttime shooting. Thanks to the f/1.4 aperture, I could comfortably photograph inside bars, small restaurants, or dark streets.

For me, however, the biggest strength is something else entirely: this lens makes photography feel enjoyable again. It combines strong technical performance with a rendering style that flatters subjects naturally without ever feeling artificial.

Overall, it is a clear recommendation for anyone looking for a single high-quality prime lens for travel and everyday photography. »

The reviewers commented:

“Of course, carrying three lenses on a hiking trip means extra weight. But if you want to tell the story of an entire journey rather than just a single scene, this trade-off can be worth it. In the end, it was the right decision for me because it allowed me to capture the trip exactly as I experienced it.”

Review: Sigma BF by Gabrielle Motola

Comments:

“Thousands of photographers share the same cameras and lenses and make entirely different images with them. What varies is the person using the equipment: where they stand, where they look, when they press the shutter, and whether they are present enough. We create the conditions for encounter; a camera can nudge our mindset toward it or away from it. The BF, in its simple insistence that I show up rather than retreat behind my equipment, proved to be exactly the right camera for this moment in my practice.”

“SIGMA named the BF well: beautiful foolishness. Something beautiful returns when you loosen your grip on the frame, lower the camera, and meet a person without using it as a shield. I would recommend it to any photographer willing to let go of the comfort and weight of a viewfinder, especially if you are curious and courageous enough to step out from behind it.”

Gabrielle Motola has been using the Sigma BF to create engaging portraits for a new exhibition

Interview: Interview with Sigma CEO Kazuto Yamaki by Digital Camera World

Comments:

"I don’t believe I can make Sigma a bigger company than Sony or Canon, but I think I can make it a nicer brand – Kazuto Yamaki”

“I asked Sigma CEO Kazuto Yamaki, whose father started the company 65 years ago, why the company went to such great lengths to change its brand identity – especially at the same time as launching a brand-new camera, the enigmatic Sigma BF.”
