After visiting this spot in 2017 struggling terribly to capture a nice Milky Way image there I was motivated to try it again. As .dill.photo and I were looking for a spot to shoot stars combined with those yellow larches this spot popped in my head. After a long discussion about where to go we finally decided to try this one out.
Conditions were perfect with no wind and a smooth reflection in the water. And even at night the road was still quite busy which was nice as the cars painted some nice trails and also illuminated the trees in the foreground for us.

This one was exactly the toad trip I needed.
When my buddy hit me up to plan something together I had all sorts of ideas in my mind where to go.
Iceland was not on of them. However, after carefully discussing about each destination we finally fixed it will be this island I have been twice already before.
Even though we were not rewarded with the best photography weather still we managed to get a few nice images in between rain showers.

Together with and I explored another ice cave🧊
After we finished dinner the sun went down and it got really cold, so we decided to head back⛷
When Orion rose behind this beautiful mountain I could not resist stopping and shoot the stars📸
As the air was a little bit moist, those bright stars glowed quite a lot and Orion stood out of the night sky so beautifully✨

One of my favourite Milky Way experience of last year✨
After an exhausting hike up to the hut, we enjoyed the last sun rays with a cold beer🍺
During dinner time and I had to head outside a few times to capture the sunset and the fog down in the valley.
Thanks to the crew of Denise and Peter for this outstanding dinner🍽
After desert it was time to enjoy the Milky Way. Fortunately the fog was still present in the valley giving this image a very special touch.
Thanks to my very talented brother who managed to stand perfectly still for 15s🕺
And last but not least and it was a pleasure to enjoy the stars with you🤩

This is the last spot . and I shot during this perfect photography trip. First we had a more or less clear Milky Way, then the sky was burning during sunrise and afterwards we explored some amazing ice caves🧊
Some of them were tiny like this one - I had to lay on the ground and push myself inside with my hands backwards so that I was able to get this perspective.
Needless to say my gloves were soaking wet after that - however, as the sun had already risen so did temperatures and all of the sudden it was not cold at all anymore☀️

I was more than happy when asked me if I would like to shoot the first Milky Way of 2022 with him☺️
Had thought it just a few days ago however was not motivated enough to go out by myself.
These days the core is visible very early in the morning and as I had a 3 hour drive in front of me my alarm clock was set to 01:00 AM⏰
Nevertheless it was totally worth it as there is nothing more beautiful than seeing the Milky Way appear in the early morning sky after winter break✨

From all the various entrances and caves there this one was the most massive one.
I had a hard time showing how massive this cave was so I was more than happy when my brother announced that he will rope down from the roof. Having him as a scale in the image shows how tall this archway actually was!

Sitting in an ice cave watching the Milky Way was such a magical moment.
Especially after having a warm dinner with my brother it was really cozy and not as some may think ice cold.
Being out there having the whole landscape to ourselves was amazing.
Thanks for sharing this moment with me!

It was one of those mornings where it was totally worth going up early.
We departed during dawn and as we climbed to a higher flight level sunrise was about to happen very quickly.
After passing the first layer of clouds the light was nothing less than gorgeous.
The morning sun was shining through the shallow gap between the layers of clouds and the soft pink and orange light was spread all over the place.
Just a magical moment🔥

It has been a long time since my last photography adventure. However, recently I met my buddy again and together we visited this famous lake which he has never been to before. I was only moderately excited as I have been there a couple of times and never found this place to be extremely photogenic.
First we explored this little island which you can see at the bottom right corner and got surprised with a very nice sunset. The fog mixed with the golden light was just amazing and we got some nice shots!
When the sun was gone it got quite cold so we decided to hike back upwards. Shortly before we reached our car we passed by this viewpoint and decided to take out our cameras again to capture this amazing scenery. The mountain in the background still was lit from the glow and the first stars appeared in the sky already. The lake was covered by this very thin layer of fog and the trees in the foreground were lit by some nearby lamps.
Ralf prepared us a very delicious coffee and we just enjoyed this view for a while.
