One of those days where the hiking slowly turns into something a little more serious. Around 3700 m in Valais, moving along a T5 ridge with a glacier filling most of the view below us. Loose rock, plenty of exposure and absolutely no room to switch off. Exactly the kind of terrain I love being in.

Then the ridge opened up and this appeared. Glacier dropping away on one side, blue water far below on the other and mountains in every direction. We had been concentrating on our feet for most of the way, so stopping here for a few minutes felt pretty special.
Probably the moment that summed up the whole day for me. Standing on a narrow ridge at 3500 m with all of Valais opening up around us. Getting here took a fair bit of work, but these are the places that make you forget how tired your legs are.
A little closer to the glacier and a better idea of what the terrain actually felt like. Steep, loose and exposed, with a long way down behind us. The photo looks peaceful. Getting there was anything but boring.
