A simple one today. 🌙

The view from my apartment window. Looked up at the night sky and had to grab my camera. That color was just too good to let go.

Sometimes I ask myself why I like hiking. It's merely walking.

But it's the views from a mountain top. It's quality time with friends. And sometimes there's only silence.

When was the last time you heard nothing at all?

Nobody talks. No traffic. No notifications. Nature, the way we belong to it. Trickling rivers somewhere hidden under mossy rocks, wind brushing over tall golden grass, seemingly lightening its color with it. Fog devouring the tallest peaks.
Miracles that quiet the voice in our heads and allow us to accept our deepest self.

We hiked through rain to the remote Lauteraar SAC-hut deep in the mountains of the Grimsel area, where we spent a night in total solitude.

The next morning, the rain had passed. The air was washed clear and the absence of sound was almost eerie. The kind that makes you hold your breath and just listen.
Only the occasional rockfall breaks the silence. I notice the trickle of hidden rivers nearby. Wafts of wind gently tug on my coat and caress my face, as if checking I'm still here. Fall has colored the area in red and yellow, streaking through the evergreen brush.

I position my friend on a rock overlooking it all. And in this moment my head goes quiet. For once there is nothing to think and so much to feel.

Freedom.

This photo reminds me that the outdoors will always have space for me. That true freedom comes from within.

I wasn't sure if I would share this, or even edit it.

Planning a moon shot usually takes me hours. Finding alignments in the landscape, timing it with the right light. And then clouds roll in on a clear sky, covering exactly the spot my camera was pointed at.

In the moment, I didn't care. I just loved being there. A soft "wow" still left my lips when the moon finally broke through the glowing clouds, while the mountain disappeared behind them.

It's frustrating to capture. But this is nature. Beyond precious. Imperfectly perfect.

This is one of my favorite photos ever. A spontaneous solo adventure. Self-care. Time to think, write, read, and feel like part of the universe.

Looking at a starry sky from the inside of a sleeping bag is just bliss.
When I'm out here alone, nobody around but the occasional fox or bird, my thoughts turn different. Raw. Real.

Nobody to agree with, argue with, or perform for. Just what I actually think, undisturbed.

The cold air grazes my face, while the wind nudges me awake.

I open my eyes and look at a blank sky. I remember watching the stars before drifting away. Now the blackness gave way to a silky purple, slowly taking over the horizon.

A few seconds go by until I grasp where I am.

Tucked in my sleeping bag, on a grassy mountain ridge, just wide enough to keep me still.

A crescent moon seems to draw the hues higher into the sky, unveiling every shade of red and yellow, while it crests above layers of neighboring ridges.

Nothing else matters now.

This scene reminds me to pause for a moment. To breathe. To let go. To simply be.

This guy messed up 4 Milky Way shots these last couple of days 🤔😄. Nothing to share.
But I'm grateful for the time I've spent in the mountains, learning photography and counting shooting stars. Stay tuned for the results of night 5 😋!
