Anyone else noticed the teeny mini flowers that form a Cornflower?

These are from a packet of cornflower seed sown beginning of July - the bees are loving them!

How are your gardens doing in this continued heat? 😳 Here, much has gone over or I have cut back and we are hoping for some regeneration from some recent storm rain we had… but it was only brief

Have a lovely weekend !

Catananche caerulea or blue Cupidone
One of the perennials of the garden that does well in this heat. It closes its petals tightly at night, but it also famously « sleeps » during the day in dull, overcast, or rainy weather
The flower was supposedly used by the ancient Greeks as a key ingredient in a love potion, hence the common name « Cupid’s dart ».
It’s a very hot Sunday here today in Lausanne - even too hot for gardening atm 😳
We are keeping water sources topped up for the birds and insects.
Hope you are keeping cool in this heat?

Our new Wildgardenlove dweller ! 🩷

Isn’t she a love ?…with her surprisingly long legs and speedy walk !
And such a huge privilege she’s called our garden home !
She has set up her nest right on our back doorstep, under the rosemary bush !
I found her a few weeks ago walking across our decking with her mouth full of dried leaves ! Oblivious to me, just intent on building her nest.
This is one of her first outings to find food for her hoglets, which we can hear every now and again, from under the rosemary bush.
She’s not found the quietest garden to call home but probably one of the wildest ! 💚

Love in a mist or Nigella
Who else loves these?! ….
Beautiful, generous, will grow out of a crack in a path, long lasting and self seeding - and even the seed pods are beautiful !
These are self seeded from last year and are just opening now 💙
Have a wonderful Friday and weekend !

Irises and Cow Parsley

Loving how the garden is filled with the sweet scent from cow parsley, lilac, Lily of the valley and clematis. Clematis has to be my favourite right now but the cow parsley is beautiful too.
The irises are just coming out - I hadn’t realised that they were named after the Greek Goddess of rainbows ! Iris was also a messenger for Zeus and used the rainbow to travel between heaven and earth.
What’s your favourite spring garden scent?
Enjoy your Sunday !

Lunaria annua or Honesty
April evening beauties !
A generous easy plant to grow with both beautiful flowers and seed heads. It is an exceptional plant for attracting bees and butterflies, providing early season nectar and serving as a key host plant for specific larvae.
See stories for the visitor who took a nap here this evening !...
