(🇩🇪) Die schwarze Zionskirche steht still und ruhig an der felsigen Schärenküste von Ilulissat an einem strahlenden Sonntag. Ihre grönländischen Flaggen leuchten vor dem strahlend blauen arktischen Himmel. Jenseits der Küste treiben gewaltige Eisberge durch die Diskobucht.

(🇬🇧) The black Zion's Church stands quietly along the rocky skerry coast of Ilulissat on a bright Sunday, its Greenlandic flags glowing in the bright blue Arctic sky. Beyond the shore, towering icebergs drift through Disko Bay.

(🇩🇪) August in Ilulissat. Anders als man meinen möchte, kann man in Grönland im Sommer üppig blühende Blumenwiesen sehen. Hier weisses Wollgras im Vordergrund, bunte Holzhäuser auf den Schären und dahinter die Eisberge des Kangia-Eisfjords. Der dramatische Himmel liess den kurzen arktischen Sommer noch intensiver wirken.

(🇬🇧) August in Ilulissat. Contrary to what one might expect, you can find flowering meadows in Greenland. Here, white cotton grass in the foreground, colourful wooden houses on the rocky islets, and the icebergs of the Kangia Icefjord beyond. The dramatic sky made the short Arctic summer feel even more intense.

(🇩🇪) Trevose Head, Cornwall. Zwischen schroffen Felsen und dem aufgewühlten Atlantik verwandelt die Langzeitbelichtung die Brandung in einen fliessenden Schleier. Hoch über dem Meer steht der Leuchtturm als stiller Wächter der wilden Küste.

(🇬🇧) Trevose Head, Cornwall. Amid rugged cliffs and the restless Atlantic, a long exposure transforms the crashing surf into a flowing veil of water. Above it all, the lighthouse stands as a silent sentinel over the wild coast.

A fiery red streak illuminates the evening sky over Ilulissat, creating the impression of fireworks above the Arctic landscape. Along the coast, icebergs drift slowly through the bay, while the rugged skerries in the foreground glow warmly beneath the intense red light. In moments like this, surrounded by the silence and vastness of the Arctic, it is easy to lose all sense of time.

From Ilulissat, a narrow wooden boardwalk winds its way through the rugged skerry landscape towards the Kangia Glacier and the huge icebergs calving from its front. The glacier moves around 40 metres a day, making it one of the fastest-flowing glaciers in the world. Ice from here drifts out into Disko Bay, including the iceberg that later collided with the Titanic in April 1912.

I was the first person to walk the boardwalk that morning. The fresh snow was still completely untouched, without a single footprint. Walking along that narrow white path, surrounded by all that silence, it almost felt as if I were floating above the landscape. Beyond the boardwalk, the massive icebergs of the Ilulissat Icefjord rose against the horizon.

On this beautiful morning, I climbed the limestone cliffs of Étretat in Normandy very early, hoping to capture the stillness of the day as it began. The tide was much more favourable this time. A week earlier, the dark rocks had emerged from the water, and this had bothered me. This time, everything seemed to fall into place. The dawn whispered softly, and the silence of the morning was breathtaking as the first rays of sunlight began to illuminate the scene.

At first light, the lighthouse of Kermorvan rises above the rugged Breton coast, bathed in the soft glow of dawn. A delicate pink cloud drifts above the horizon, adding a fleeting touch of colour to the tranquil seascape.

During my photographic journey through Ireland and Northern Ireland, I came across Dún Briste, one of the most remarkable sea stacks in the area. Rising dramatically from the Atlantic, its ancient layers were illuminated by the warm light of the late afternoon. A long exposure transformed the surrounding sea into a soft, mist-like veil, emphasizing the sea stack’s timeless presence and sculptural form.

One of the most striking views along the west coast of Greenland’s capital, Nuuk. In Myggedalen, colourful houses cascade down the sloping hillside, and when covered in snow, they create a beautiful contrast between the rugged landscape and the gentle splashes of colour.
