We put the OCF Hyper Performance Reflector and an Elinchrom Three in the hands of Elinchrom ambassador Ben Girardi Ben Girardi to see if it would be helpful in the somewhat challenging situation and environments he is often facing during his assignments.
This is what he said;
“This was a spec project where I wanted to showcase trail running in an alpine environment that was rugged and raw. In order to get to this glacier we had to hike in and approach via a steep rocky chute. It wasn’t super far, but weight definitely was a consideration when packing.
Shooting in the bright sun in the mountains can leave you with contrasty images with a dramatic difference between light and shadow. I was able to rely on the Hyper Performance Reflector, not only is it’s small design simple and easy to pack in a bag that is already full of other gear, it also gives me enough control of the light
in the bright conditions. With the action the lights can’t be super close, so I needed the throw to get the distance and be able to fill in the shadows.
Once the sun was gone I was also able to use it to mimic the directional light of the sun and match the feel of the images from earlier in the day.”
