- The Matterhorn -

🏔️- Words cannot describe how absolutely insane this mountain is. This peak topped my list of must see peaks and I’m so thankful to have been able to see it with my own eyes and capture it through my own lense.

It’s impossible to truly describe the scale of this mountain, it sits at 14,662 feet above sea level, which many (me included) would compare that to many of the 14ers we have here in Colorado. The difference comes in how low many of the base areas of Switzerland are. Zermatt sits at around 5000 feet above sea level. So to fully put that into perspective, many of the base areas of 14ers in Colorado, say Leadville, is already 10,000 feet. That’s only 4,000 feet of prominence. It would be like places by a 14er directly in the town of Fort Collins, Colorado. Nearly 9,000 feet of prominence.

Truly an incredible peak, and the alps are one of a kind.

- Winding Roads Through Forests of Gold -

Boreas Pass offers incredible views of the front range mountains. By late September and Early October apsens turn vibrant shades of yellow orange and even red. Portions of this pass in high moisture years turn some of the brightest shades of red you can find around Colorado. The road is accessible in majority of SUVs however it’s pretty rocky at the summit. Peak timing can vary from year to year but stay tuned in local forecasts or feel free to DM for anything adventure related.

⛰️ On a gloomy day in October, Mt Wilson sees its first Snowfall of the year. The trees were doused in color while the snowcapped mountains contrast with grey skies perfectly. Mt Wilson also the mountain found on Coors Light cans, is one of the most photogenic mountains in the state. Seen from highway 62 and 145, along with from many mountains in Telluride, it’s truly a must see when visiting southwest Colorado 🤙

🏔️- Taken in October during the peak Foliage, the San Juan’s are simply un beatable during the fall. The combination of jagged peaks and massive aspen groves made for one of the most beautiful road trips I’ve ever done. Several of my posts for the next weeks or so will be from my trip to the San Juan’s in the most recent fall.

These photos are simply from pull offs on highway 145 near mountain village in Telluride. A super scenic road really in all times of the year. However fall is just different, nothing beats it.

Fall can be a busy time for scenic roads, be respectful to other travellers. Don’t stop in the middle of the road, and make sure there’s room for you to pull of on lookouts without blocking the road or being hazardous to other drivers!

🏔️ These photos take place on Guanella Pass back in the beginning of fall. A fun way to hit this pass is to come from the highway 285 side and go the opposite way towards Georgetown. This way is a bit less busy but also makes it so you can hit some of the many trail systems on this pass before reaching the summit.

🏔️ These photos were taken in late July just before sunrise in Yankeeboy basin. One of the most popular off roading destinations and 14er enthusiast destinations in the state. On our way up to summit Mt. Sneffles, there’s incredible view points from the road and the beginning of the trail.

First, let’s talk about the road. The road is chill for the most part as you exit Ouray, it’s calm dirt, however there’s some pretty extreme exposure majority of the way, which could make passing people a bit sketchy at times. As you make your way up, it will become more difficult, requiring some pretty good clearance and off roading skills. I decided to call it good at the second to last parking lot, as it was pretty sketchy to make it all the way. Remember that if in doubt, don’t go out.

Hiking wise, there’s lots of options here. The main attraction being to summit Mount Sneffles. I’ll have a separate post up about Sneffles soon, however I like to remind people that with most 14ers. Each one has their own unique basin, typically carved out by glaciers that sometimes have better views then the actual 14er itself. Yankee boy basin is one of the most beautiful basins I’ve ever been in. Just hiking the trail to the base of Sneffles is well worth it and not super difficult.

Lucky to have been able to photograph the flatirons in all four of Colorados seasons.

Whether its snow covered flatirons glowing the day after a snowstorm. Flatirons lurking over vibrant colors of leaves saying goodbye to the season. Or new blooms popping up beneath them as they make way for the summer.

Hopefully these photos motivate you get out there during all of the beautiful seasons. 🤙

- Mt. Sneffles (14,155 ft)-

📍- Ridgway, Colorado

Mt. Sneffles is arguably the most beautiful mountain in all of Colorado. Nestled in the San Juan Mountains, there’s just something about this mountain that makes it stand out from the rest. For this reason it’s probably my favorite peak to photograph.

Mt Sneffles is one of the states 58 fourteen thousand foot peaks (14,155 ft). It’s 1 of 14 fourteen thousand foot peaks in the San Juan range and is the 4th highest in the range.

The peak is most easily viewed from Ridgway, Colorado which is where majority of these images were taken throughout the year. It’s an absolute must see if you are interested in viewing or photographing peaks.
