Working on the streets of Tokyo often means working fast—and staying compact.

“I keep my lighting setup simple, especially when I’m shooting on location in narrow streets. Most of the time, I use a single Stelos as a subtle fill light from the side, balancing flash with natural light so the image doesn’t feel ‘flashy,’ but as natural as possible.”

When space and time allow, Jason adds a second light in a classic clamshell-inspired setup:
“One light acts as the key, while the second creates a rim light from behind. This helps separate the subject from the busy background and adds depth.”
