I've been hearing this beauty around the lake for a couple weeks now. Finally got to lay a lens on it. I'm pretty sure it's a juvenile Goshawk. We got to spend some good quality time together, until I needed to put some kiddos to bed... Great way to spend an evening.

I only just recently learned that porcupines are the second-largest rodents in North America, next to the beaver. They also wear about 30,000 reasons not to mess with them. Stabby Mcfluff here was a very cooperative golden hour subject. 📸

Made a new friend today. Spent some time observing the napping habits of this fine fellow. Must have dozed off while sunbathing on the riverbank. Slow to wake, in no hurry to leave, we shared a quiet stretch of the afternoon together before it got back to work. 📸💛

Not much longer and these guys will be heading back to the tundra, swapping winter whites for mottled browns.
Maybe someday I’ll catch them donning their tundra tones. ❄

Not everyone brakes for ptarmigan. That's ok though. They are generally pretty good at getting out of the way. ❄🚛

After locking eyes with just a snow bank between us, he snatched up part of a meal and wandered off 180 yards to finish what we had interrupted.

We circled back an hour or so later and he was right where we left him... napping on the open tundra. ❄🐺

We saw about 70 caribou the other day. Small groups scattered across the landscape. Most were way out...800+ yards... but one group hung a little closer, about 220 yards out, chilling in the snow. ❄🌲🦌
