This past week had been quite incredible for northern lights. A strong geomagnetic storm produced breathtaking displays last Thursday night (October 10) into the wee hours of Friday morning. Aurora borealis enthusiasts from all over had their eyes up to the sky, hoping to get awed.

It was a slow start for us in Winnipeg. The clouds were thick and unmoving until around 2am. Then an astounding light show happened. It felt like standing under a dome of light that lasted for a long time.

The sky was awake with colours once again last night and into the wee hours of the morning. These first few were taken at a side road about two minutes away from my house. The rest were taken from my front yard.

Yet another night of spectacular northern lights! A friend and I went out and managed to watch an amazing show even for just a short period of time. We would have stayed out longer if it didn't happen to be a work day tomorrow. It was a breathtaking experience, nonetheless.

Posted • .james_assiniboiasd Attention SJASD staff and families: We are seeing an increase in respiratory viruses circulating in the community, including influenza, COVID-19 and RSV. At this time, we’d like to remind everyone to follow the current Public Health recommendations to help slow the spread of infection:
-Stay home when sick.
-Wash hands frequently.
-Sneeze or cough into a tissue or your arm.
-Consider mask use.
-Monitor daily for COVID-19 symptoms.

We are continuing to ask staff and students who have a positive COVID-19 test or are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 to isolate for five days and to wear a mask for the remaining 5 days.

Schools have renewed their efforts to remind students to wash their hands and stay home when sick and we are monitoring the situation closely.

Thank you for your continued efforts and support.

Spruce Woods Provincial Park was our hiking destination today. We did the Spirits Sands and Devil's Punch Bowl Trail. It was moderately challenging only because some parts of the trail require walking up and down the sand dunes with loose sand. We started out early to take advantage of the cooler temperature. We also took a lot of breaks just to look at the views and to take photos. It was warm out by the time we finished in the early afternoon.

It is an interesting place. It felt like we're walking on the beach in the middle of nowhere.
