Sometimes the best thing you can do is ask.

George Stroumboulopoulos was in Whitehorse this week, and my partner suggested I send him a note. I’ve followed George for much of his career and have long respected his deep knowledge of music, his conversational approach to journalism and his humanitarian work. So I asked.

He got back to me and generously made time for portraits while he was on set for a show he's shooting

I wanted the photographs to feel relaxed and unexpected. Less like a formal portrait session and more like moments in a conversation.

I think we found that.

George, thank you for your kind approachability, time and trust. It was a pleasure to meet you.

Short-billed gulls mob a bald eagle near the Yukon river in Whitehorse. A flash of small bird nerve against one of the north most powerful predators. Birds do this to drive away a potential predator from a nesting area, feeding area, Young, or territory. I was out photographing Whitewater paddling on the Yukon river and looked up and saw this flock of seagulls chasing down this bald eagle. Sometimes the shot just comes to you. It always feels good to get back out there and shoot for fun.

We followed the race this year on Jet Skis. What a ride. A bit wet, a bit ridiculous, and a pretty incredible way to see the race unfold.

As always, huge respect to the racers, volunteers, safety crews, and everyone behind the scenes who makes this event happen.
