Since 2017, Shakat Media has been successfully operating in the Yukon as a small media company. We are a creative, high-energy, artistic team that is capable of producing films, videos, and photography of premium quality in the northern conditions. We manage all aspects of pre-production, production, and post-production, with the goal of accurately portraying the life style in the north. In additi

on to feature films, our area of expertise includes client-based work (such as commercials, event coverage, online content production, and both large and small documentary projects). Our favourite projects are those that focus on documenting the adventurous spirit, the outdoorsman's lifestyle, journeys across breathtaking landscapes, the careful observation of pristine wilderness, and human immersion in the natural world. Additionally, we love working with artists, musicians, people of culture, heritage, science, politics, and many other fields. Our work has been showcased at local film festivals, and we are currently working on a feature film project.

This moment captures the joy of documenting people in their element, immersed in their own creative worlds. This was taken during a tufting workshop presented at the Yukon First Nation Education conference last week, and it perfectly reflects why we love what we do.

Working alongside people, observing, learning, and documenting the process as it unfolds is always a gift. Photography is not only about images; it is about connection, curiosity and about stepping into someone’s creative space and witnessing it with respect.

And the tufting beauties that were created? Absolutely adorable and beautifully made. Soft textures, vibrant colours, and tiny works of art brought to life by patient hands.

After a little hibernation from social media… yes, we are still here. Cameras charged. Lenses polished. Stories unfolding.

Where do we even begin?

Summer carried us through mural painting days under open skies, with colour on hands, paint on shoes, and laughter bouncing off fresh walls. We also hosted an ALFF film screening that reminded us why storytelling matters. A room full of people breathing the same story at the same time. That kind of magic stays with you.

And just last week we were documenting the YFNED Education Conference. What a beautiful whirlwind. The best part of gatherings like this is not only the speakers or the stage lights. It is the in-between moments. The reunions. The hallway conversations. The faces you have not seen in years. The new connections forming over coffee. That quiet electricity of community. And yes… the food deserves its own round of applause.

We are grateful to be invited into these spaces to witness, to document, and to preserve the energy of it all.

Here is our favourite photo from the event.

More stories coming soon. 🎥✨

It was a pleasure to document the joyful gatherings, the wisdom spoken, and the spirit that filled the conference. ✨

This year’s Youth, Elder & Educator Awards Night, part of the Yukon First Nations Education Conference, was an evening filled with powerful emotion and deep community pride.

There were tears of joy, heartfelt applause, and shining moments of recognition. We celebrated the leadership of youth, the wisdom and teachings of Elders, and the dedication of educators who continue to make a meaningful difference in their communities.

The night was woven together with beautiful music and an incredible jigging performance that brought the audience to their feet, filling the room with energy and celebration.

An evening rooted in pride, connection, and the strength of community. 💛
