For a few years, I’ve wanted to complete the Spearhead Traverse, but I always worried that I wasn’t fit enough for the 34 km of mountain hiking with a heavy backpack, especially while camping for two nights and skiing at the same time. I’ve done some winter camping before, but I had never experienced the challenges of the Alpine.
This past weekend, I went on an overnight trip and camped at 1,900 meters right below the beautiful Joffre Peak. We had to set up our camp during a snowstorm with winds up to 50 km/h. Luckily, the storm eventually calmed down, and around 3 a.m., I stepped outside my tent to see the amazing sight of a full moon kissing Joffre Peak. I witnessed immense beauty in such a remote place. It was a stunning view and reminded me why we take on these adventures.
The second day, we had a great time skiing on soft powder, making some fantastic turns.
It was an amazing experience, tough at times, but I learned so much from it!
Who knows, maybe this year I will finally try take on the Spearhead Traverse…
One thing I know for sure: I’m really grateful for the great crew that made this experience so special 🙏🏻
Till the next adventure…
