Documenting elopements and weddings means always looking for the small moments that have big meaning behind them.

For the wonder in someone’s else of experiencing something new.
The fun and silly moments.
Admiring the view or someone you love.
The silence when reality sets in and the day becomes REAL.
The journey or the process that made the day.
Conversations people hold dear with people you hadn’t seen in ages.

To me weddings, elopements, and even couple sessions aren’t just for those WOW photos of everyone looking their best. The small moments are what make each wedding one of a kind, and they hold the most sentimental value to me personally from not just my own wedding but my childhood too. Photos of us just on rocking chairs with grandparents enjoying a hot summer day or fishing in the river.

It’s something I like to keep in mind while photographing people. I know my clients appreciate it too, because the photos I see my past clients downloading even from weddings 5+ years ago aren’t the big group photos they’re the candids from cocktail hour, the hugs with grandparents, and the small “insignificant” moments throughout the day they’re downloading to relive.

And, honestly, it makes me so happy to see 🥹♥️

I loved seeing other photographers do this trend! It really gives you a better look at while we can have our own style of shooting and editing, each wedding can be unique! Your decor, color palette, energy, environment, and vision all bring something different to the table. Even two weddings with the same decor will be so different because it’s the people at and in the wedding that really make it the special day that it is ♥️

You know it’s going to be a good wedding day when that first Good Party email enters your inbox laying out the day! Working in Victoria is so much fun, I love running into vendors I’ve known for years and seeing familiar faces. I feel like every wedding I have on the island I know at least one other person there. Don’t get me wrong, meeting new people and making new friends inside and out of the industry is just as fun! But there’s nothing like rocking up to a wedding and seeing some of your favorite people to work with there doing what they love too! 🥰

I’ve made friends all over because of doing weddings and I’m so thankful for everyone I’ve been able to meet, work with, and work along side. I don’t think I’ve ever left a wedding without at least one new friend!

Hot bi***es on a boat 🛥️✨
Sarah’s downtown Vancouver bachelorette was everything! boat day, ocean dips, champagne cheers, and nonstop “I’m getting married!!!” energy 💕
After a wild weekend of partying in Whistler, this was the perfect refresh. Sunshine, swimsuits, and a dream crew of sisters and lifelong friends made it one to remember.

This wedding, was everything 🥹🏝️🇲🇽

Late June this year, and I took off for our first destination wedding together from Vancouver and Calgary to meet up in Cancun. And from start to finish the trip was a RIDE. From being one of the few people staying in our first hotel, to watching restaurant staff feeding a salt water croc, to having our jaws drop just at the lobby of the wedding resort, drinking coconuts poolside, to taking tequila shots with the couple who made the trip possible it was nonstop shenanigans and “I can’t believe this is happening” but in the best way.

This wedding was simultaneously my dream wedding and my worst nightmare come true 😅 not in the way you probably would think either! The couple was absolutely lovely, the weather was beautiful, the guests were some of the nicest people I’ve ever met, and the planner was spot on. The problem was…me being dumb and getting a frozen margarita a couple days before the wedding (off resort of course) if you know…you know! 🥲 Even though I felt like crud, I don’t think I could possibly be happier about the photos I’m so in love with how they turned out! 🥹

I cannot wait to wrap up J & B’s photos and send over one of the most Pinterest board worthy weddings I’ve ever shot!

I know I haven’t posted really at all lately, or even this year, but don’t worry I’m still here, creating, capturing, and loving photography! ♥️ I’ve just needed to step back from social media a lot this year and focus on myself and recenter a bit.

We’ve been up to some fun stuff this year and I know I haven’t shared anything just yet but don’t worry! The Wander West team is doing good, I’m doing good, and we aren’t going anywhere 🥰 We all just needed to recover a bit from three years of craziness, myself especially. We had just over 80 weddings in 2024 and 2023 ALONE. So yeah, the burnout was real, the weight of it all was a lot, hard lessons were learned, and something needed to be cut from the long list of “to do’s”. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?) that was social media. It was just something that realllyyy felt like a chore, even though I love sharing my life, our work, and bts shenanigans with yall so much I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.

But here is a relatively low effort, brain-dump post, sort of explaining where myself and the team have gone and why for the past…what? 7 months now? 😅 we’ve been MIA! I’m working on a bigger explanation, but to be completely honest Instagram is pretty low priority on the long list of things we have cooking up this year. I know it’s important, and eventually I’ll get decent at being regularly on here. But for now I’m trying to to put pressure on myself and say “I’ll post every other day!” Because I know that won’t happen lol

I have so much to share with yall it’s crazy! And I’m excited to do that, just not right away. I’m not going to promise I’ll be posting regularly again anytime soon? But just know we are here and we are working with so many amazing couples this year and excited for everything coming up 🥰

2024 has been a year for sure! It’s been a good year in many ways, a hard one in others, and a fun one on top of everything good and not-so-good.

With the year coming closer to wrapping up I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about how I can make next year better, how I can do better, do more, be better, and also do less at the same time. January will be a month for reflecting and planning! I’m hoping to make significant changes in my life and business next year and have been taking steps towards them, thank you so much to everyone who working with me, supported me, befriended me, pushed me, and was there for me in 2024 ♥️

I’ll make a recap post of all the amazing projects we did in 2024 sometime in January! I’ve been very inactive on social media this year and for the first time it’s actually made a noticeable impact on my mental health and my business, both in good and bad ways for either. Something I’ll be planning for and reflecting on in the next few weeks!
