Pride of place. It’s something you can feel the moment someone starts talking about their hometown. Their eyes light up with a mix of love, familiarity, and belonging that’s deeply moving to capture.

This environmental portrait was taken along the Bow River in Canmore, Alberta, with the town’s iconic old train bridge in the background. A landmark in this beautiful mountain community.

I love how the colours in this subject’s outfit work so perfectly with the landscape of this scene. The effect is authentic, natural and relaxed.

I especially love how the subject’s outfit harmonizes with the colours of the landscape. The result feels authentic, natural, relaxed, and full of pride for the place they call home.

I captured this image a few years ago during Offbeat Photography’s Portraits in High Places workshop in Banff National Park, a truly unforgettable experience.

The subject, dressed in a historic miner’s costume, stood against the breathtaking backdrop of Lake Louise and its glacier, creating a striking contrast between human history and the timeless landscape.

This B&W portrait has a certain stillness. There’s a weight to the expression, a connection to the rugged mountains. It’s an image that invites the viewer in.

Character portraits are some of my favourite sessions. They’re a chance to lean into storytelling and emotion. This subject is a professional actor who wasn’t afraid to work the scene and bring his presence to the frame. It’s always inspiring to collaborate with someone who understands how to play with expression, posture, and mood.

While I love capturing lighthearted, relaxed portraits of people and couples, I also have a soft spot for moody images that reveal something deeper, cinematic moments where personality and atmosphere come alive.

Character portraits give me room to explore that side of my work: thoughtful lighting, bold compositions, and storytelling through subtle details.

I bring a landscape photographer’s eye to portrait work. Attention to composition, light, and the subtle details that make an image feel alive. The result is intentional, story-driven portraits that capture both place and personality.

In landscape photography, the thrill is in the search: the right location, the right light, and that unpredictable third element that ties it all together. I bring that same curiosity and sense of discovery to every portrait session.

This particular portrait was taken in early autumn, a fleeting moment when the leaves turned gold, between rainstorms, along an abandoned stretch of railway tracks on Vancouver Island.

For the subject, this place sparks memories of a childhood fascination with trains and the quiet beauty of places that have outlived their original purpose.

I love photographing people outdoors. I enjoy the creative process and the candid moments. It’s fun to find unique ways for my subject to interact with the environment.

Portrait sessions are a true collaboration. We choose locations together. Places that mean something to you, or somewhere you hadn’t considered, and then work together on how best to capture your personality and presence.

Worried you might look awkward in front of the camera? That’s where I come in. My job is to help you relax, feel comfortable, and genuinely enjoy the experience. With gentle guidance and a supportive approach, I’ll make sure you both look and feel your best.

You know how people light up when they talk about something they love? Their energy shifts; it’s as if a light flickers to life behind their eyes.

I absolutely love portrait sessions that centre around people’s passions or hobbies. There’s something so special about capturing someone in their element, doing what brings them joy.

One of my favourite things about portrait photography is creating images that reveal the subject’s soul.

Meeting with a new client is always inspiring. I love hearing their vision and exploring ideas together. Every portrait session is as unique and dynamic as the person in front of the lens, and I truly enjoy the creative brainstorming process.

For this shoot, we selected an interesting location and used an upside‑down composition to capture something unexpected, playful, and visually striking.

Fun fact: this portrait was taken in a ghost town within Banff National Park!

Not every portrait needs to focus on the face. Sometimes, the human form itself becomes the artwork.

In this image, the contrast between the elegant red dress and the rustic cabin sets the stage for a story the viewer completes.

To me, this photograph feels like it belongs on a book cover. I can’t help but imagine what the story inside would be about.

Black and white portraits are striking and powerful. I love the depth, drama, and emotion that monochrome photography brings.

This fine art portrait uses a dark, textured background to focus entirely on the subject.

Subtle compositional elements such as leading lines and triangular shapes guide the eye and heighten emotional impact.

This is an excellent example of a fine art portrait. It’s also one of my most popular photographs. People say that it looks like a dreamy watercolour painting.

I captured this portrait at iconic Lake Louise at sunrise. It was taken as part of Offbeat Photography’s Portraits in High Places workshop a few years ago.
