Well folks, it’s a world-wide “what the f**k” out there right now.

These are my lovely friends, and yesterday was their baby girls first birthday. If you’re a parent, you know how big this milestone is. And how crappy and heartbreaking and unsettling it would be to celebrate a year of firsts in the middle of a global pandemic.

So like any good neighbour I drove two minutes up the road, and stood back a million meters (thanks zoom lenses, signed - a formerly prime lens only person) and got a few snaps in front a cherry tree around the corner from their house, to remember this momentous and strange and wonderful and sh*tty day. Modern problems require modern solutions 😂

Happy first birthday, baby P. We love you (and your mom and dad!) so much! 🎉

Things have been quiet here because January was a tough, heavy month.

Our loss community lost a leader: Charlene Chambers. Charlene founded , which support parents who experience infant and pregnancy loss. She was there for me when my son died...and she was there for many, many others. Her contributions to this community were innumerable. She was lovely and funny and giving and did not suffer fools. She died on January 14th and I have been wondering how to write this post since, because nothing I say here will be quite appropriate to sum up the total impact she had on my life during a time of unspeakable sorrow.

I’d like to share these images of Charlene because they make me smile. She was one of my first clients - supporting me and cheering me on when I picked up a camera. When we took these photos I was still learning my craft (and of course am always still learning) and I was so proud of these images. I’m proud now, and I hope you see her beauty, strength, and vulnerability as I do.

Never stop reaching out to the ones that matter, because life can change in an instant. Charlene, I hope you are reunited with your little girl, and I hope you’re holding all of our babies close- the way you held us moms and dads close here with your important work and service. We love you and miss you so much; we are so thankful for the many gifts you gave us. Rest in power.

In these winter months, I feel a strong pull to go inward. To slow down my client work, to stay home more often than not, to pull back from creating everyday and just ruminate on what exactly it is that inspires me TO create. I don’t believe we were meant to plunge headfirst into a productive January; I think we’re meant to rest and incubate our dreams and desires for the year ahead a little longer ✨

It’s hard to believe we’re in the last few days of October! I live for this season- the colours, the weather, the autumn activities...here for all of it. I’ve a busy week ahead of me editing and then off to Vancouver to provide headshots at a conference over the weekend- something a little different from my usual family sessions!

Raccoons broke their way into our coop over the last few days and took out almost half of my flock, including this handsome rooster. Life on a farm is pretty picturesque, until it isn’t...circle of life and all that but honestly, this chicken mama is heartbroken tonight.

Today is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day. It’s an important day, a day for moms like me to share our stories without shame or stigma, to help you . The last few weeks have been busy for me, and that’s why it’s been quiet here. I sponsored a proclamation with the to recognize today as and they approved it last week. I spoke with with the hopes that more people will learn that 1 in 4 pregnancies will end in a loss, and that there is a lack of resources for loss parents. My inbox keeps filling up with stories from fellow moms who need to connect with someone else to who just gets it.

The #1 supporter of my humble little side hustle has been my loss mom community. They have loved me and cheered me on, they’ve let me in to capture their vulnerable moments and celebrate their happy ones. It really, really, sucks to have a membership card to the dead baby club. It’s really, really, amazing that the people in that club are all so loving and giving.

This is my son. Today, and everyday, I remember him.
