Yesterday morning the sky over Esquimalt Lagoon was doing one of those things where you look out the window and immediately think, “well s**t, I should probably go fly.”

Less than ten minutes later, the Air 3S was up.

A few photos, a short video, and one very moody Vancouver Island morning.

Full post here:

A moody sunrise over Esquimalt Lagoon captured by Vancouver Island Drones, with aerial video and photography from one of Greater Victoria’s most photogenic coastal spots.

Moody skies at the lagoon this morning, so obviously the Air 3S had to go up.

This is Intelligent Return to Home doing its thing and bringing it back in after the shoot.

Sometimes the best part of flying is just standing there watching a couple thousand dollars worth of technology confidently head back toward you and hoping it remembers where you are.

Took the fat-tire e-bike out toward the far end of the Galloping Goose recently and brought the little DJI Neo 2 along for the ride.

Started with some gorgeous tracking footage over the Selkirk Trestle, then ended up way out past Sooke Potholes toward Kapoor Regional Park and the old Leechtown area.

At one point the Neo 2 locked onto me, started backing up… and promptly backed itself into a tree and crashed into a gully.

For a drone with collision avoidance, this thing sure collides with a lot of s**t.

Picked it up, dusted it off, launched it again, and it still managed to get some of my favourite footage from the ride.

This e-bike has been getting my old fat ass into corners of the South Island I’ve wanted to explore for years, and I’m absolutely loving it.

Taking the DJI Neo 2 along the Galloping Goose by fat-tire e-bike, from the Selkirk Trestle to Sooke Potholes, Kapoor Regional Park and the remote western end of the trail.

A few recent Vancouver Island mornings stitched together — quiet water, golden light, coastline, and one last drive along Ocean Boulevard before the day really gets going.

No big story. Just why I keep bringing the drone with me.

Sunrise at Cordova Bay with the DJI Air 3S bringing itself home like it actually knows what it’s doing.

Forgot the landing pad at home, so we had to raw-dog the beach landing and deal with the cleanup later.

Tiny bit of sand, very little dignity, but the view was worth it.

Blake putting the DJI Neo 2 through the real 5-year-old test.

Pump track at the bike park, beach, park, backyard, gesture control, ActiveTrack, and the usual amount of kid chaos.

This is why I keep liking this little drone. It’s not a big serious setup. It’s small, quick to launch, easy to use, and it actually gets pulled out for real family stuff — which is kind of the whole point.

Not a paid ad. Just dad footage, kid energy, and a tiny drone trying to keep up.

I’ll put the Amazon link in the comments for anyone curious about the Neo 2. As an Amazon Associate, I may earn from qualifying purchases.

I’ve added a small new thing to Vancouver Island Drones.

I’ve built up a pretty big library of real 4K Vancouver Island aerial footage over the last while — beaches, driftwood, coastline, sunrise, calm water, forest edges, shorelines, and all the usual West Coast nonsense I apparently enjoy getting out of bed way too early to film.

If you’re working on a website, social video, local ad, tourism page, promo video, or project edit and need a few seconds of actual Vancouver Island aerial B-roll, I might already have something that fits.

This isn’t generic “somewhere with an ocean” stock footage. If you’re from the Island, you know. Vancouver Island footage looks like Vancouver Island footage.

Simple pricing for existing clips:

$50 per clip
5 clips for $200

Watermarked previews are available, and clean versions are sent once licensed.

And if you need something specific — a property, business, project, shoreline, or location — custom drone shoots are still available too. Most straightforward local drone photo/video jobs are usually in the $200–$300 range depending on scope.

Local drone photo/video availability.

I run Vancouver Island Drones here on the Westshore and I’m opening up a bit more room for practical aerial photo and video work around Greater Victoria and Vancouver Island.

Good fit for properties, projects, small businesses, construction progress, shoreline views, roof/exterior checks, site documentation, tourism/development visuals, or anything where a clean overhead view helps.

For longer projects, I can also do repeat flights from planned angles using waypoint-assisted flight paths where appropriate, which helps create consistent progress photos over time.

I’m Transport Canada Advanced-certified and plan flights properly, including airspace checks and NAV CANADA coordination where required.

Simple local jobs are often in the $200–$300 range depending on scope. Larger, recurring, municipal, or more structured work is quoted properly.

If you or someone you know needs drone photos, video, progress documentation, or just a better angle than ground level, feel free to reach out.

A few favourite coastal drone clips from the last few months around Vancouver Island.

Drone, coffee, and early morning flights.

Vancouver Island does all the hard work here. I’m just lucky enough to have this as my backyard.
