The brief? “Sexy, youthful, confident and very ‘it girl.’” 😂

Maame knew exactly how she wanted to feel in her milestone 30th birthday portraits.

Beautiful, feminine, a little bold, but still completely herself.

I kept the setting simple and let everything else do the talking. The white dress, the gold details, the light, and most importantly, Maame herself.

She also said she wanted to look at the finished images and think, “damn, I really look good.” 😂

Well, Maame, I think I understood the assignment.

Thirty looks good on you. Thank you for choosing me to do this for you ❤️

Today is Jennifer + Ghanet’s wedding day.

Months ago, before today had a timeline, before the ceremony had begun and before everyone they love gathered in one place, we made these photographs.

Some are composed.
Some are quiet.
Some happened in the space after the direction was over.

And that is what I love most about getting the chance to do an engagement session with our couples before the wedding day.

They give us time to photograph the relationship before the wedding asks anything else of it.

Today, the clothes will change.
The setting will change.
The energy certainly will.

But these two people are still the story.

And today, we get to photograph the next chapter.

An Alonuko bride in Gaudí’s Barcelona. And light we could never recreate.

For Kosy’s bridal portraits, I photographed her against the extraordinary architecture of Basílica de la Sagrada Família where Gaudí’s lines, stonework and dramatic light became part of the story.

There are photographs you construct, and then there are photographs where the location gives you something you could never manufacture in a studio.

The scale.
The stone.
The shadows.
The architecture.

My job was to recognize it, shape the frame around it, and know when to let the moment speak for itself.

My approach to weddings remains the same wherever I photograph:
Direct when direction improves the photograph, observe when real life is better and anticipate what cannot happen twice.

Toronto. Barcelona. New York. Europe. Africa and wherever the celebration takes us.

The final portraits before the wedding day. 🤍

Iyere + Josue walked into the studio and gave us Old Hollywood glamour, then switched into all black and gave us pure ease. But what stayed with me was the laughter between frames, the quiet moments, and the way they naturally lean into each other when the camera is no longer the focus.

I approached their engagement session the same way I approach a wedding: knowing when to shape the photograph and when to simply pay attention.

Tomorrow, they say “I do,” and we get to tell the next part of their story.

Here’s one question I think every couple should ask before booking a photographer.

Don’t only ask:

“Do I like their best photographs?”

Ask:

• Can they tell an entire wedding story consistently?
• Can they photograph the quiet moments as well as the portraits?
• Family as well as fashion?
• Tradition as well as design?
• The reception as well as the ceremony?
• Can they still make strong photographs when the light changes, the timeline shifts, and the day becomes real?

That matters.

Because your final gallery isn’t going to be ten images.

And your wedding album certainly won’t be.

Choose someone whose work still feels strong when you see the entire story.
