June Hunter Images Website: http://www.junehunter.com My goal is to inspire an appreciation for nature through my photography and mixed media work. Not necessarily "Grand Nature".

More your common or garden "Everyday Nature" – lichen in the alley, a house sparrow, the squirrel that is digging up your bulbs, the crow cawing on the wires in the alley. Since receiving my first camera in 1962, I've spent many, many hours looking at the world through a lens. A full-time artist since 2006, I've been selling my work at local Vancouver galleries and markets and online since then. M

y studio is located in my garden behind my house in East Vancouver. I am lucky to have my daughter, Lily (an accomplished photographer in her own right) as an employee. Edgar (our cat) would hardly consider himself an employee (rather the reverse) but he is an invaluable asset in modelling a deeply relaxed approach to life. My work has been shown in several individual and group shows in Canada and the UK, featured in print (Style at Home, House and Home, Where Vancouver) and on radio (CBC's North by Northwest) and TV (CBC's Living Vancouver). My art and jewellery are sold at galleries in Vancouver and elsewhere in BC. Please visit my web site at: http://www.junehunter.com for more information.

Well, talks are no longer underway.
I’m sad that Canada-US trade negotiations collapsed, but glad that our Canadian negotiators didn’t take a bad deal.
The new 50% tariffs are going to be hard on lots of us, including micro Canadian art/craft businesses like mine.
It hasn’t been widely covered, but in the “General Goods” section of targeted items are many, many art items …
* Paintings, drawings, pastels and collages
* Photography, notebooks, journals
* Original prints and lithographs
* Sculptures and jewellery
* Textiles, wood products and other handmade works
* Arts and crafts made from fur, bone, antlers etc.
Almost everything in my shop is now tariffed at 50% for US customers, as is the work of many of my fellow Canadian artists and craftspeople.
I’m taking a week or so to let the news percolate, before thinking about where to go from here.
The loss of US customers is somewhat heartbreaking — not just financially, but also because I’ve come to know many of my US customers as friends over many years.
Birds know no borders, so I’m convinced that our cross-border corvid lovers community will remain harmonious. 🖤❤️🖤

Things Go Better With Crows

Discussions are ongoing.
This is more of the same lengthy raven conversation I posted earlier this week — something to enjoy as we wait to see what the tariff talks bring.

The beak games and the preening of each other’s feathers is part of the year round raven romance, building bonds of trust and affection. ❤️

Just talk amongst yourselves …

Raven domestic chat is the best, and I’ll be tuning into their channel for most of the day today. Let’s hope the US and Canadian tariff negotiators are having a similarly productive conversation as the deadline on 50% tariffs looms.

Blink.

It’s been a wearying week of heat, smoke and dealing, once again, with US tariff uncertainty — so I think we all need to see these ravens goofing around in the snow again. Filmed a few years ago now, I find myself revisiting them and reliving the moments of watching them to distract from trying times. Hope you find them refreshingly too. 🖤❄️😊

— 50% tariffs on goods entering the US from Canada are scheduled to take effect on August 19.

— Included in the list of items to be tariffed are most of the things in my shop* — including prints, books, notebooks, etc.

— I will have to close my shop to US customers on Saturday, August 15, to ensure that all US orders cross the border before the tariff deadline.

*The only thing not affected by the 50% tariff seems to be the City Crow Calendar.
