I've also included the first half of the speech I will read tmrw at his service, to help give me the strength to read in full as I can't stop crying today..
When I first met Johnny he was quiet, strange, his head was in the clouds, but I think that's why I liked him so much. Our birthdays both fell within 8 days of each other in January. As the world grew older, so did we. We met when we were just entering the first years of our twenties. He reminded me a lot of myself with my own mannerisms, but as time meandered on, I realized he was in a league of his own. There was something about him that I wanted to be pulled into his mystical world, all the time. He took me in.
I was so helplessly drawn to him, as he was unlike any other that I'd met before. He'd always be scribbling away or sketching in his notebook, a treasure trove filled a certain kind of whimsy only he possessed. I documented him with my camera all the time, much to his annoyance in those early years, I only hoped to capture a glimpse of his magnificent soul.
I took him on his first hitch hiking adventure and he was so nervous to be on the road, but everything was smooth sailing. His wanderlust soon surpassed my own making his way across Canada and through Mexico, hitch hiking up through the States. He was living his dream, his fantasy world had become his reality.
Johnny was a force of nature, he embodied a certain kind of magic. He may have not been the perfect man, but he truly loved the world, the people, the animals, and everything in between.
