México City, , one year later. I have little time to post with a little one these days, but some photographs are worth the effort. I read somewhere that architecture is like frozen music, and I couldn’t agree more. The attention to detail in the way the light hits the interiors was unreal. I’ve never experienced such bold and refreshing use of color, with rooms and shelves filled with artisan-made goods, and walking through gardens inspired by the natural lava landscape. Luis Barragan is a genius, and I can’t recommend his architecture tours in Mexico City more.

We’ll be in México City and Oaxaca for the first two weeks of May. I’m very excited to return to México City and to hear about some of your favourite experiences in both places, bonus points for family-friendly activities 🌮🇲🇽💫

Autumn in the studio, dahlias + 35-week selfie 🧡 Wrapping up the last week of shoots at the portrait studio. A couple more October brand shoots to go before I take some time off to be a mama!

It’s been such a joy having people come through the studio for portraits. The feedback on the colorful backgrounds has been so amazing—something I’ve always wanted to bring to the beige and white tones of Vancouver’s photo scene.

I’ve posted a couple of portrait behind-the-scenes in reels under “portraits”, will share more here soon 💫

Motherhood with Aileen and little Forest 🤎 As Tim and I embark on the journey of building a family ourselves — this feels like an extra special subject to photograph. I have always found women a profound subject to photograph. Whether it’s capturing the prime of our youth, the wisdom years, artists, motherhood, and everything we do to put out beauty in the world.

Also, a joy witnessing old friends blossoming into the most wonderful parents.

Some new portrait work from the studio, or non real-estate agent headshots as I like to call them. It’s been truly lovely having a space for people to come in. I won’t share the name of the studio yet because there are a couple moving parts in the next while. I really love the painterly look in these 💚

As unpredictable as working in art can be — I think that everything has been led by an extraordinary amount of peace and beauty.

Open portraits are on at the studio — I’ll also share more details + new inspo in my newsletter coming next Saturday. Sign up link: sophiahsin.com/newsletter

In the studio with Elise and Maddie 🌿 I have always wanted to photograph little people with giant plants. Taking a moment to celebrate the photography vision finally came true.

If you’ve noticed the gradual switch from stills to portraits — it has been truly wonderful having a space and have people be a part of the creative process. Working with portraits is like creating a still life, with more quirks and surprises. It's always the spontaneous moments I love most — it's different for everyone.

"The art of life is creating your own universe". The studio is forever evolving but I like to think of it as a space to invite others into my world.

Summer mini & portrait sessions are now open. Link in my bio and also here: sophiahsin.com/portrait-sessions

Gentle with . I love the softness in these sets and finally have a space where I can work on more portraits. I have always wanted to add that element of texture and hand-made imperfection — something you cannot find in seamless backgrounds and white walls. It has meant a lot of experimental painting on my end but a welcome add to my art practice. Lifestyle, florals and some wonderful humans I get to work with and be inspired by for International Women’s Day.

Working in art is not always an easy thing. The reminder that I don’t walk alone in it is priceless. Being a photographer is being part of a community. My work wouldn’t exist without the creativity and grace of so many others.

Photos 1-3 for our campaign last year. Thanks so much to everyone who was a part of it! 💐

A basket of beauty for a grey snowy day in Vancouver. This image was inspired by Caravaggio’s “Boy with a Basket of Fruit” at Borghese Gallery in Florence, Italy. It was a painting that I could stare at forever — the lush details of the fruit, the portrait, and the life that emanated from a painting that was created over 500 years ago. The timelessness and artistry of the artwork were astounding.

Here is my take on it, with Korean pears, a selection of my taxidermy butterflies, and grapevines from my parent’s garden. My ode to Caravaggio, whose paintings inspired so much inspiration 🦋

This image is available on my website as a print. A piece you can immortalize in over your kitchen table or living space. A reminder of beauty, the necessity for it in everyday life, and the joy of being able to create it. sophiahsin.com/shop/caravaggios-basket-of-fruit
